its just awesome though what merc is doing. lower maintenance, 89 octane, longer life, longer warranty, 1100hp, about time technology is being used.
|
The way I see it, this could be a good thing for independent engien builders such as Eddie Young, Randy Garcia, Potter ect. There is still a good market for supercharged engines, and this could more or less force the boat builders, that normally would only use merc racing blown engines, to turn to other builders, in order to sell thier boats.
Just a thought:drink: |
Do I read this right, the new 1100 doesn't require the same octane as a 700?

I've been saying for a long time that turbos are the future for our sport... I'm suprised it has even taken this long.
It's good to see Merc is seeing the light, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the majority of aftermarket builders join the movement. Yes, I know there are a few guys doing one-offs right now, but it's only a matter of time before we're swapping turbos like we do SC's around here. |

Remember the thread not long ago talking how turbo motors could never be used in offshore boats?
Things always change,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Honestly, I know Dustin will argue this, but SC's of any type just cant compete with properly sized and designed turbos. The only place I see SC's having an advantage is with instant throttle response and often more power at lower RPM's. In a performance boat I dont care all that much about either. |
So if they get rid of the 850sci, you will only have pretty much three engine choices for high hp (700,1100,1350)? Seems like there are a lot of boat owners that want somewhere between 700 and 1100 hp but still have stock Merc stuff...

Peering into my crystal ball, I can see merc
taking the hairdryers off the 1350/1100's and coming up with something in the 700 hp range, then bye-bye goes the 700SCi. |

for those that dont understand the power capability of turbos: http://www.mercuryracing.com/blog/bi...onster-torque/ |
The 1,100's are in the new Cig 42X Ducati boat.
