I think I agree with what your old man told you the other night, that you need something with big power.... REALLY big power! I will add to that and say that the boat should be staggered of course.... And it should be a Black Thunder. A 2000 43gt with a checkered flag paint job to be exact....... :lolhit:

We could have saxmobile painted on the back of it at no extra charge for ya.

As for the next boat, probably a pontoon, with you know what for a motor........... lmao.

wieland77 03-10-2011 07:42 AM

First boat was at 19 with a 87 26' Wellcraft Nova with twin small blocks- cant tell you how much fun that was!!

Then a 211 Liberator at 21, at 22 a 25' Sunsation, and then at 24 found my baby- the 1st 28' Saber made and have restored it (along with some nice upgrades) over the last 5 years:drink:

Very glad to see a younger crowd enjoying and being able to be a part of this awesome sport/addiction:ernaehrung004:

Gotta say, props and utmost respect to all the young guys working hard and making smart decisions to achieve their goals.

From the old guy who's been working hard all his life. 44 times around the sun this year :)

You get back what you put in. Good for you guys.

Boomer35 03-16-2011 10:15 AM

At 23 i rolled out of College with a Civil Engineering degree and essentially no debt, (just college loans).

at 24 i bought a 1987 formula 357 (before i even bought a house), fixed it up, ran it, sold it, made a little money

25 i bought a 2001 F1 29' fountain, fixed it up, ran it, sold it, made a little money

27 i bought a 2000 Cigarette Mystique 30', dream boat, love it, and have it to this day (now 30).

i literally spent every day of college on boattrader and OSO classified telling myself that one day if i stick with this college thing i will have one of these. I swear its what got me through it all. Now its all about work hard play hard.

LOL. Sounds familier. While everyone else in the engineering computer lab was working on solving problems I was surfing OSO. Probably would have had better grades if the school would have blocked it. :drink:

modvp 03-16-2011 10:54 AM

As a teenager, in the late 80's, I had an Aquasport 196 powered by an Evinrude 140.

I replaced it with a used 1984 22 Velocity powered by a Merc 3.4 lit that I kept for about 10 years.

I now have a 2004 velocity powered by a Merc 250 EFI that I intend to keep for a long time. I don't believe in taking out a loan to purchase toys.

Definitely cash is the way to go! No worries about boat payments when your filling the gas tanks. And you own it outright!

rlj676 03-16-2011 05:30 PM

Funny how a thread about guys in their 20's buying boats is about how you should only pay cash to some guys?

Pay cash, finance, have fun who cares. You may die tomorrow or you may retire broke.........but either way I'll make my own decisions, not base my decisions from a 1 sentence post of a "finance expert" on the board haha.

That said, I wish I had never bought a house and sunk that into a big ass boat payment, couldn't have lost as much money.:evilb:

Sunny32SSR 03-16-2011 07:43 PM

24yr - 2002 23' Crownline LPX

I'm 27 and still floating around in the same ship. Been looking the last year for a 288 Sunny or 29 Scarab

Found out on New Years I'm going to be a daddy, which is exciting. However, at the time I'm ready to finally pull the trigger on a new boat, all the reservations in the world have stood up and are telling me to, WAIT....

Oh well. All in its own time. The money is there but got to put la familia first.

I will NOT be selling the Crownline. But... Maybe I'll add some 150s K-planes to feel like a bigger boy.

boating37 03-16-2011 09:33 PM

My first boat was a 24ft Baja, bought when I was 20 years old.then I traded it in for a 1989 Sonic 28ss, and that was in 1992. great boat had MRD build me a blower engine, boat ran 80mph back then. That was fast
one of the faster boats in the great southbay in those days.

When I was 25 I bought back my Dad's original 1977 Taylor Jet Boat. Now I'm 31 and have that and a Lavey XCS. I guess I'm a little behind compared to some of you! lol

A.O. Razor 09-27-2011 05:37 AM

First boat I had was a 16' Fletcher with a 135 merc, later a 150XR2, untill that engine tore a cylinder. Got it when I was 17 back in 92' and sold it to a friend in 95'. That was good times. The guys at business school could have any car, be the best at this or that, whatver. When summer came, no competition, getting the girls on the boat was not hard. Man I miss those years.

CigaretteSam 09-27-2011 08:58 AM

Jay Gadsby 09-27-2011 12:40 PM

Some of you guys make me feel bad about life lol. 28 I had a Pachanga 22, still have it, but recently upgraded to a 2000 Nordic Heat 500EFI. I am 30 now... I guess the 7 years in Germany kept me out of boating lol.

machloosy 09-27-2011 02:50 PM

21 yrs old now with a 07 profile 260v.

Bajambug 09-27-2011 09:13 PM

I started very late in the game, at 29. Just mooched off my friends boat for about 4 years, then finally pulled the trigger on 27' Mirage with twin 350s.

I spend every weekend on the boat this summer, untill i did a boat trip on my buddies boat and realized that i needed more living space and comfort.

So a couple weeks back i picked up a 370 force Baja with twin 502s. Been living on it for the last 2 weekends and have no regrets. I can almost stand straight in it with it's 6'2 head room... (i'm 6'4) But i can see this boat leading to a lot of play time both on and off the water

offshoresteve 09-27-2011 11:21 PM
