RF Powerboats Plans to Build a Catamaran
 

Interesting development in the Reggie Fountain/RF Powerboats story, http://speedonthewater.com/component...to-build-a-cat.

The complete story is running in the next issue of Powerboat, which is going to press tomorrow. I wrote it for Powerboat and was paid by Powerboat, so I can't publish it all here. But editor Jason Johnson graciously gave me the OK to release some of it here.

There is a lot of chat with Outerlimits on his FB page.

Didn't know they were 1 of the top 2 cat builders though????

I can say categorically Reggie Fountain was not talking about Outerlimits in reference to the cat project.

At one moment, the "mean" part of me thought of calling my story, "Copy Cat Killer," but I'm not sure the joke would have gone over so well.

It wouldn't surprise me if he did something with Peter and Skater I believe they have worked together on other items in the past...

I remember the old Fountain/Scism Cat that they did years ago without much success, so building a Cat isn't as much of a stretch as a lot of people would think....

Don't think of Outerlimits as really a player in the Cat market, yes they've made a few really neat boats but they would fall in the same place as the Statement Cat... Nice boat but not many of them out there...

The only "cat players" are Skater and MTI. He has worked with both Randy and Peter. Should be interesting

Bill I usually agree with you but in this instance not.

MTI/Skater obviously own the "race cat market" but Nortech has put a large quantity of pleasure cats in the water over the last 10 years or so.

Why would someone like Peter who has been the most successful cat builder over the years, have had some of the fastest boats, was contracted to build Fountain race boats for Reggie by Reggie ever want to team up with him. What can he bring to Skater????
I wish Reggie the best but hope Skater remains the way it is as a Skater Nation as you all say!

My guess would be Skater since they did work together before. But who knows nowadays!

Glad RF is getting into cats, to be "Real Fast" cats are the only way.

Still weird how this whole deal is going down, where are all the law suits (this is america ya know!), where are the boats, at least computer pictures, something! Where is the money coming from, etc.

Whatever...just glad stuff keeps moving in the powerboating world!

Reggie has done fantastic things for our sport. We respect the heck out of him. With all due respect to Mr Fountain, we are doing very well on our own. To end any speculation, our official statement is that we have no plans to build any Nor-tains or Foun-techs.

Probably not Skater, because then he would have described it as "The top cat builder in the country"...it's only when you add a second player that Skater becomes one of the top two.

They have a ton of very happy customers out there with various sized and powered cats.

I know there was at least ONE cat racing in KW in '04 with the Fountain name on the side.

It was a dealer sponsor, but Fountain was in the logo...
