When I wrote this commentary and linked to it, I had no idea the topic would catch fire like this. From the industry side, it's been an easy trend to identify, especially in the last 10 years. But hearing straight from current and former performance-based center-console is even more enlightening.
Great discussion and excellent feedback from those who love and don't love center consoles. This is probably sacrilege, but I actually like how quiet today's outboards are. I like that I have to look at the tachs if I can't remember starting them. I know, I know, aversion to loud noises is a function of age. |

Joker, I know you are a good guy and a GA boy and mean no insult about your bath tub. Matter of fact, if I see up on the lake, I will be sure and stop by for a bath and a shave and to say hello. Dan

Thanks to Terry Sobo :angry-smiley-038: :D, my wife is in a frantic search for a bigger CC :drink:. It's not EVER going to replace the thrill of a Go-Fast....but it's one hell of a cheap alternative as a secondary boat!! Well I've got the two strokes on our CC and that means NO premium gas NO oil changes NO draining or bilge heater for the winter and NO powerhead corrosion issues in saltwater. And the kids ran around and spilled sht on it all afternoon and I hosed it off when we got back. I don't even yell at them for spilling sht anymore. And I let people eat on this boat. Flushed the engines and home after 15 mins. |

I looked and looked. I guess 2-3 can sit on the transom. |
Ha ha u a funny guy !! If that was our 32 ft u may be right, I will say again our 32 ft has seats for 10, and not counting the head where would we put a guy like you!! LOL

Now if I was in the income bracket where I could pay the marina to do that for me there's no question which boat I'd want. |
Maybe a stupid question, but why dont more CC's have stepped hulls?

Are CC the future?
No more than wind or solar power was the future when they were introduced 30 years ago. |

I'm in the market if anyone knows of a great deal! http://www.carrerapowerboats.com/27.htm will do 70+ with twins and they will make it with none of the fish stuff if thats what you want. |
Perfomance boats all the way. Love the sound, the ride, and nothing like laying out on the pad to catch some rays. But if you're in Fl. going thru no wake zones all day, then they are worthless. To get anywhere, you're plowing creating wake. So CC's have their place, even if you don't fish. Wish I could afford to have one of each.
|
I see the dual purpose of it I guess but its kind of one or the other. I remember when the fish and ski came out and everybody was clammering that the days of the 16-22ft speed boat were over. Well not really fish and skiis have their place but will never be a Four Winns, rinker, sea ray etc.

I have been reading through this thread again, and I think there is a wide casam here. The problem with performance boating is it chews people up and spiths them out. You throw enough rods, you puke enough tranys, you look at enough bloody marys spilled on your carpet, refrigerator doors falling off, microwaves exploding, a boat full of freon because the A/C took a crap again and you start thinking "this is crap, and I'm done". I know I don't want a fishing boat, but right now it's the best alternative. I think this may be an evolutionary step towards the real future of performance boating.

There's room for both...having been boatless coming up on three summers now, you really appreciate being on the water in anything.

I dont get the animosity towards them, I love the sound of a big block and the looks of a go fast but I want the practicality of a center console with outboards, I understand there not for everyone especially the guys that live on lakes up north, I would like to fish with my son and maybe get into diving, I too am sick of hanging upside down in a bilge with my hand contorted in a position that it should'nt be in, look forward to the ease of outboards.

I told my Dad one time, if you EVER find a fishing rod on my boat:
1) It was put there as a joke 2) That person is a walking deadman |

Well I enjoy foremost being on the water! I do like to fish and find that performacne boats are rather 1 dimensional! I bought my first perfomance boat in 1992 and sold my last Cigarette in 2003. When I think about a CC, I think about running offshore to the gulf steam, which is probably farther offshore than most performance boaters unlesss they have been to the Bahamas. Isn't great that we can have this kind of debate about our toy's! In the end we are all very lucky!

Power play made a twin I/O center console a few years back and I believe Cigarette did also.
