Yes, my 440 shows depths and clearly shows where the channels are. Has been worth its weigth in gold when we've taken trips out of town.

If you have a West Marine close to you I would go in and play with a few models and see how you like them. That way you know for sure what you're getting.

Ok thanks I will. Thinking im going with the 431 as it has inland maps vs the 441 has costal maps.

I just bought and installed the 441s with transponder. I love it so far and haven't bought the BlueChart card yet.

i was thinking about getting the 431s, but dont know if i need that function as I already have a depth finder

My original depth finder was old and more than "off"... The new one is so much better, but thats why I got the depth finder with it.

When you buy the extra maps and Bluechart you get unlimited free updates on that particular map. So every time they are updated you just plug it into your computer and download the latest version.

thanks nice to know that. I know Garmin likes to rape you over the coals after you buy a unit on their maps.

so would you guys say a model like this is a better buy than a used 176 or 276 type Garmin
