Had My Truck Chipped
I had my 2002 Ford Powerstoke Excursion chipped by the guys at Performance Motorsports Tech. WOW!!!!
The chip gave me 80 more HP and 150lbs Torque. The truck now has power, acceleration, shifts firmer and tows great. It's like a different vehicle. And i am getting 2-3 more miles per gallon. I also bought this kick ass air intake. It flows 300% more air than the stock filter. These numbers are real, they ran it on a dyno and i have the sheets. Next i'm going for a 4" stainless exhaust. Also they gave me a discount for being an OSO member. I'm going to take some photos of the intake and post them. Check out there new banner on OSO. or call them 954-974-1768 |
I chipped my '99 F-350 PSD and there is a trumendous difference.
|
Same here. Just threw in a K&N filter as it was due for a change and the turbo whine is alot louder......which is good!
|
I did not change the exhaust, just took the muffler out. Wow it is LOUD!!!:D
|
PP Race,
I don't see their banner. Do you have a web address for them? |
OSO member discount! man that also equals Power!!!
Best Regards:) |
Cool ! Congrats on your new chip ! THe age of computers ! Who would have thought ? Ain't it great ! Get some pictures up .Would love to see it ! IS it possible to post that dyno sheet ? We would enjoy reading that !:D Make sure you open up that exhaust before you pull too much heavy stuff .and keep an eye on the exhaust temp and trans temp too . THats a lot of chip !Best of luck with it . JOE

Why Dosen't Ford "chip" the PSD ?
I have a 2000 F350 Crew Cab Dually 4X4 with the PSD and have been considering the chip upgrade. It handled our 290 PQ with no problem, but our new boat weighs a few thousand pounds more.
boot, I did get your info. just not ready to pull the trigger. The question I have is if these computer upgrades are a great as people say they are, why doesn't Ford provide them from the factory. I mean 80 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque and 2-3 better mpg, those are remarkable numbers. And I am not questioning them, too many people have said the same thing for it to not be true. My father is in a camping club, these guy's are power crazy, and they all have upgrades to the computer, exhaust, intake etc, and have all the guages; exhaust gas temp, intake manifold pressure, oil temp, trans temp, etc. They also get 200,000 miles out of an engine. Thus the question, why doesn't Ford do this to the truck from the factory  |

2K Excursion Limited- installed the SCMT a while back (60 hp program)- WD gauges (thanks boot!) 4" turbo back exhaust and K&N filter. I did some suspension mods that Ford should have done when they built it. Now an absolutely awesome vehicle!

I've ordered a set of airlift air bags for the rear and i am going to add a leaf to the front. After that i may have some money left to put some fuel in the boat. Pictures to follow. |
Hey jafo!!!!
You gonna tow that bad boy down to the Thunder Run ? If you are we should hook up and make the trip together.
|
You guys have to run Prem gas for the gassers with the chip upgrades? My 250 SD 5.4L could use a little push.
jafo, nice Avter. Where'd you get the idea? ;) |
h20warrior- We are definitely going to make the ThunderRun- wouldn't miss it even though we'll probably be the baby of the fleet! We'll be leaving the boat in FL for the winter. We'll have to talk dates on when we're traveling down- maybe Todd and Tracy can join in too! Kaama, what about you?
US1- the avatar? hope you don't mind- the idea came from you of course- I thought it was great, and I am proud to be a charter member!:) |
h2owarrior, The numbers are great ! WD has the tri power chip that with exhaust and ram air adds 75 hp on low , about 110hp on medium and about 165 hp and 350 ft lbs torque on high ! Most guys were afraid of the tri power for a while but thats all I've sold latley ! Right now I'm booked for installs about 4 weeks on just trip power chip and exhaust set ups ! The season is hear ! Every one is going camping , pulling boats , and horse trailers or just rippin up the pavement !
|
ALso ,"Why don't the factories do it ? "
Well they don't need to . Besides were do you stop . WHen they were 215 hp they were great at the time ! THen 235 ,then 250 ,then 275 now talking 3 something ! THere will always be more , Thank god ! Besides ,A lot of people have no buisness with too much power ! How many of you have blown transmissions , and ripped out clutches ? And that was stock ! What are you going to do with more power ! MY brother is pissed at me because I won't put a chip in his truck . He is too hard on equipment and when he brakes it I don't want to hear it ! Extreme power is great in the right hands . But you have to respect it ! The factories don't want to here you crying about how you broke it so they won't directly offer the extra power . However ,they do offer it ....... Yes ,Centurion trucks come with Western diesel products installed and sold from Ford lots ! And another company called "2L customs " in Texas installs WD stuff on all there trucks . THese truck customizers and others are all backed by Ford and they stand behind them . THat must say something for WD. Centurion alone gets something like the first 3000 trucks off the line each year from Ford . JAfo ,Glad things are working well ! I take it you got the picture OK ? Was it easy enough ? WHat kind of readings are you getting on the gauges ? Take care ,JOE |
Need for power!
Very interesting thread, Do they also make that set-up for a dodge gas engine? I sure could use some extra something, sometimes I think that my truck is just tugging at the Boat not pulling it!! But big Boat and little truck(half ton) Guess I cant expect too much!! Spent my money for the boat maybe next year we can get a bigger truck..
eliminator219:D :D :D |
I know... The computer says i am getting 19-20 but i am only getting 16-17.5. Not too bad, I tend to drive 80-85 on the highway
|
Hey Jafo - I have a 2000 Excursion PSD. I've been looking at exhaust for this truck but I am concerned about the clearance on the downpipe using 4". The stock 3.25" is shielded because it is VERY close to the firewall. I was told by many aftermarket exhaust companys (B&B, Banks, etc.) that 4" would not work on the Excursion. Do you really have 4" or is it necked down to 3.5"?
|
Troutly is right on the money . Check it the right way . I get 18 mpg running hard . Not too bad . Diesels can gain almost unlimited hp from chips . 150-170hp and still be drivable if set up right . Gas motors are tuff .They have no turbos to add boost like diesels do . And you can't just add more fuel to a gas engine .It dosen't work like it does for diesels . ON some of the older" big trucks ", We used to put vise grips on the rubber return fuel line for racing .Make it burn all the fuel ! Gain an instant 100 hp ! (Don't try this at home )!! There are chips that claim 15-30hp for gas engines . You need custom exhausts ,good air intakes , you could even run a cooler thermostat . This all would wake it up pretty good ! But you need to always run premium gas .
NO MATTER HOW MUCH IT COSTS ! AZDominator, I am a western diesel distributer and installer . I also do my own custom stainless exhausts too .The WD exhaust has a 3 1/2" down pipe with 4 " from there back , large pollished stainless muffler and 5" pollished tip . Everything is stainless . Beautiful peice .Bolts right up like factory . Beware of 4" down pipes ! You will loose some low end torque and thats were you need it to make it drivable and good mileage . I can get 4" down pipes if you want but I don't recomend it . It works better then stock but the 3 1/2 I think is more responsive . Also , I have done some trucks lately that had other companies exhausts on them and I see only some of the parts are stainless not all . Make sure what you are getting for your money . If I can help let me know . I give OSO discounts too !:D JOE [email protected] |
Hey Boot...You e-mailed me some stuff awhile ago {Thanx} But...Isnt there something simple? no exhaust etc. Im not looking for a rocket....50 hp& make the tranny shift better??? I know these tranys are weak I dont want much! 2000 PSD Auto
|
Did the same here to my 02 F-250 PSD
Carbon Fiber Autometer Gauges (EGT, Tranny, Boost) AIC (thanks Troutly ;) ) SCMT best money I have spent AMSOIL synthetic oil The thing is a blast to drive now :) Troulty is right about the EGT's on the diesels. If you stick your foot into the pedal, better have gauges to watch those temps. They climb real quick :) |
Hi Bird dog . Yeah , you could just put a chip in . E-mail me your computer code and I'll see what your computer is capable of . I may be able to program 50-60hp . A friend of mine has a 2001 with the 75 hp chip and an air filter . It runs great and shifts great and he pulls a 38 fountain SC . His exhaust is still stock . If you tow something heavy you should at least get an exhaust temp gauge to keep an eye on it . I haven't seen any problems with the WD stuff making a lot of ex. heat . Your computer code is on a little white tag , 4 digits , on the FRONT of the door next to the upper door hinge .Send me the code and I'll run it through the program to see what your computer will accept. Even at the normal 75 hp it will be fine . I have lots of guys running the tri power chip 160+ hp through automatics and pulling heavy with no problems . Talk to you later ,JOE
[email protected] hp500efi, WHat is the "AIC" ? Yes the exhaust will climb fast but shouldn't get too hot with the right set up . What kind of temps do you see MAX? WHat hp is yours? And where exactly is the sender on the ex. temp gauge ? THanks ,JOE |
Joe,
You got mail. Dan |
YOu ain't kiddin Dan ! I got alot of mail ! Sent it back to you too . I got a message My PM box was full . I checked it ,it only showed 1 . THen I realized it was only showing the last 10 days . YOu have to go in there and clean it out sometimes !

Warrenty
Hey PP Race,
Does that chip void the warrenty?????????????? Randy |

I don't know how i ever drove my old Excursion without one. Are you going to the Sarsota race July4?? Give me a call, I'll get you hooked up with the guys at PMT |
Hey PP race , MAN , I hate to say it but you should check that ram air system better . I have raplaced a few of them lately for guys . They don't work well at all . At least the ones I have seen .
The design is suposed to sit tight against the under side of the hood . It is not even close ! Look at your hood . Notice there is no marks on the insulation from it . It is sucking hot air from the motor . With that turbo under there it gets REAL hot ! And the main idea of it is to suck air from the fender . Ford tried that in 99 . IT didn't work . you can't get enough air from the closed fender well to feed that motor . YOu need to seal out the heat and ram in fresh cool air and lots of it ! There are many udeas out there .Some work , some work good ,and some don't . I saw a dyno test on one ram air ( not yours) that actualy lost 5-10 hp from stock and increased exhaust temps by 200 degrees ! NO LIE ! Sorry ,Just my .10  |

Thanks for your input |
THats good ! Keep that hot air out . I haven't looked that much but it there a way to get more air in from the grill area to the inner fender were it draws air from ? Every little bit helps ! ;)
I did one a few years ago where I put a small cawl induction syle hood scoop on the hood and just cut 4 -2" holes in the hood under the scoop . Just that little bit of getting that hot air out from under the hood made the motor run cooler and picked up drastic power . I couldn't beleive what it did for it ! It dropped the factory temp gauge about 3/8" ! If anyone does this , don't make too big of a hole in the hood . That insulation is holding in a lot of that diesel noise . Just a couple small holes does wonders for the truck and doesn't make it get real loud ..;) Good luck ! And Keep on Chippin ' ,I mean truckin' !:D  |
Hey guys I have a 2001 powerstroke f250. the crew cab 4x4. I already have a hypertech programmer on it and took the muffler off. I was wondering on the prices of some stuff like chips and exhaust. I have a friend that would by my Hypertech i think. Any info would be appreciated guys. Thanks Bobby

Real Motor for real power
If you want to really see something go, check out one of the Cummins B series tuned by Blue Chip in New Hampshire.
I got the chance to drive a 1999 Dodge with 480 HP at THE REAR TIRES! (This one pushes over 50psi out of the turbo) Torque was right around 1,000 at the crank. You could get in trouble with this truck easily. Faster than any Mustang GT stock. It has 200,000 miles on it and is driven daily. 5,000 retail worth of add-ons, including stainless header, bigger turbo housing and performance clutch....the first one, well, it kinda "popped" :) The real deal was when it was full of Amsoil (4,000 lbs worth of it) and pulling a hill. Rolled the throttle on and WOW! feels like there is no load at all. The trrick to a diesel cranking out this much HP is to make sure it stays cool. If you had a fire hydrant to keep it cool, you could push a Cummins to 800 HP. I have seen the Power Jokes, but they dont do the trick....too bad Ford said no to CUmmins way back...I would like to see Ford have a real motor in thier truck for once. This Dodge gets 22 MPG with cruise on at 70 MPH. Never seen a Power Joke get even close to that. Also, how much oil do you guys burn after about 50,000 miles? Nearly everyone I talk to says it sucks oil up, while the Cummins rarely consumes any. Duramax is too new to tell yet, but they sure dont get good mileage. Allison/GM mating has certainly not gone smoothly either. Nice truck to drive though for sure. Nearly silent. I would love to have a Suburban or an Excursion with a Cummins in it. Too bad Dodge does not make a big SUV with that motor. Why cant the small truck makers act like the big ones? Order a truck with your choice of engine! I think we would see a lot of SUV's with Cat's and Cummins then! |
Hey Boot the tag is washed off !! any other ideas? The 75hp truck sounds like what i want.
|
Boot, AIC= Auxiliary Idle Control that allows you to "high" idle the truck for heat and cool and battery charging applications. Has a nice digital tach built in.
I am running the SCMT on the +60hp mode, I have not used the +80hp mode. Temps are at a maximum of 1000 if pulling hard otherwise pulling the boat on a flat surface while going 70-75 is around 7-800. I drilled and mounted my pyro sensor right into the exhaust manifold (pre turbo). I did not like the clamp on style so I went the more difficult way and glad I did. |
RING RING RING , Gumby , your alarm clocks going off ! WAKE UP !!THats a pretty ****ty thing to do ,knocking someone elses truck ! Obviously this high hp Dodge is not yours ! Where is yours ? Why don't you have one ? Any motor can be made faster . FAce it ,cubic inches = hp ! WHats wrong with the Ford , Have you ever had one ? LATLEY ? I work on all of them and have owned all of them . Just did a Duramax tonight . Every one is entitled to there own opinion .Even if it is wrong ....
Bird dog , The only way to get to the code now is to take out computer . It's pretty easy . TAKE THE KEY OUT AND HIDE IT . Look under dash on drivers side .Next to parking brake .That black metal bracket is holding the computer in . GO under the hood first and take the plug off the front . It has a 10 mm bolt in the center . Make sure you get the right plug . Now go inside ,the bracket has a 10mm bolt way up on top off it ,look hard . Take that out , then take the 2 little ones out right at the back edge . THeir may be one more under it against the fire wall . Pull the computer and bracket a little towards the passenger side and slide it straight back toward you . DOn't loose the little metal clip on the lower small bolt .It's a ground . Carefully slide the computer out ,Ther should be 2 tags .one on front and one behind . Look for the 4 digit code in bold letters . What ever you see wright it down so you don't forget and have to take it out again . If you have any problems or quesions while you are taking it out call me .908-782-0688 or cell 908-963-2513. YOu will be very happy with the 75 hp chip . That pedal on the right is not just An on and off switch you know ! YOu don't have to use all the power all the time !:D Let me know if I can help . [email protected] hp500efi, is that the factory AIC or aftermarket . The westerndiesel turbo brake comes with that feature too . It has a choice of 2 rpm settings or off . How do you select hp settings on that chip ? Can you do it while driving or do you have to stop and take it apart or what ? YOur exhaust temps sound great . Most of those I've seen get a little hotter then that one . Good luck with it ! |
Boot, the AIC is OEM and it is a nice feature. I made a carpet spike oak wood base to mount it on as I did not like the factory bracket. Just another "toy" to the truck :)
The SCMT is a programmer that I carry with me. Plugs into the data port (while truck is off) download the OEM program, upload the 60hp mode and 10 minutes later......walla, new truck. . . if I need to put the OEM back in, I simply DL the 60hp mode and upload the OEM. . works sweet. |
Well Crap!!!! story of my life, nothings ever easy!! That on & off pedal thing....I tell my drivers that rvery day!!:D I guess Ill fool with this in the next few days. Anf Gumbys coments sorta hit me the wrong way to!!! We whent to Cumberland over the holiday, stayed at Jamestown Marina,he nicest marina on the lake.Standing on the balconey looking over the parking lot, nothing but trucks & big SUVs.Not 1 Dodge in the whole lot!!!! all brand new Chevs & Fords !!!! Man these wealthy people must be realy stupid! Nuff said.
