You would never want to spray onto the hull, it's far more permanent and advantageous to do it all in the mold if you have the capability to. Essentially comparing gelcoat to spray paint is like concrete to blacktop. Make sense?

Been absent a couple of days so here's a few updates on our favorite boat with a welcome surprise at the end 
I tried to get in close enough here so you can make out the detail of this process.
