Ridefast: Did you have the conversion done? Actually I might suggest dropping an 8.1 with the 4L85 behind it.

even if you are right. Take 400 miles for example. You get 20 MPG Highway vs 11 gas. Ok lets say you have a 30 gallon tank. 36 gallons of gas used at 400 miles gas here is 3.43 so 400 miles would cost you 123 same mileage for diesel would run you 20 gallons at 4.19 a gallon 83 bucks for 400 miles. But your dumping 15 grand into a build. Gonna take you 375 fills with saving 40 bucks a fill up to get your invesment back. Personally your going to see maybe 13-14 Towing and 15-17 Highway. So really your probably going to end up losing money. Just doesnt make sense to me. Why not just buy a diesel, not if you go to trade or sell it, who would want it. |

The power difference will be huge!
The 6.0 in your hummer is a turd and the 4L80 tranny has a ridiculous 1st gear ratio. You will smile every time you stomp on it! And towing will be much easier. |
Sounds like it will be a unique and cool setup. I look forward to the completed reports.
I wonder if they would put a Duramax, or better yet a 7.3L PSD in my 2-door Tahoe for me. |

I also have an H2, & that would be an awesome set up, it has been done, Search the Hummer Forums, I know I have read about somewhere, whats wrong with towing with the 6.0L

I've got an H2. The DMax should have been standard equipment.... I really enjoy driving the H2, the money for the conversion would be worth it to me. As far as resale goes. I would buy a well done conversion in a heartbeat.

You can even call Ford and they will tell you that they had to give up somthing to have that big ass mack truck front end. But they do have the biggest body in there class. So i guess if you like fat girls you need to buy a power joke ford!
This is a cool project guys. I just think this guy is way off on his numbers for MPG on this diesel. Ive seen highly highly modded diesel push 20, but 24 I dont think so. And IMVHO to spend 15 grand on a 4-5 year old vehicle is not effecient. I wish I had money to drop 15k on something stupid cool like this. Good luck and I cant wait to see it. |
Its only monies BIG Daddy can't take it with us when we go and just hate to leave it for the kidz to fight over :angry-smiley-038::lolhit:

4-5 year old vehicle THAT THEY DON'T MAKE ANY MORE. So whats out there is all you get, and i would put money thay mine is one of the cleanest out there! and if you thank that is a wast get this in about 5 more years i was thinking of doing a quadrasteer conversion on it. How nuts would that be having a quadrasteer H2 with a duramax. Yes that will be that hottest sh** out there :coolcowboy: And ill have the only one thats the best part.

It really is too bad that GM didn't offer the Duramax in the H2. I think the swap is a great idea, Can't wait to see how it turns out. I feel Ford shot themselves in the foot by stopping production of the diesel excurision as well.

they didnt sell thats why. I agree the H2 with a diesel should have been an option, not standard though, if it was standard it would have sold less of them then it already did.

Darrell. I kind of take some of that back. If they could offer it under 50k and have it get 15-18MPG maybe, but just not worth it. |

have you ever thought of it at this angle. I assumed you have a 2007 H2. I went with the luxury model and if you dont have the luxury than figure a couple grand less but your trade could be worth 25-27 then 15 you got into the conversion and your looking at dang close to a new diesel. Which will have a warranty and personally would be more trustworthy than some modification. Just wondering

The excursion didnt sell well period. GM had/has the market on that class. I think the MPG for either engine on the Excursion was what under 10 or something. With the way gas goes now, that vehicle will not come back, and if it did it wouldnt sell. It seems cool and some of us on here might like it but it just wont sell to the masses. Just like the H2 it was cool, but practical has started to out rule coolness in the last 5-10 years as far as car buying.

I know because I was developing a audio system for Ford and they gave us a few to do the R & D on. I drove them back and forth to work daily and took a few "Tuning" trips with them. On one such trip I had 7 people in the V10 running down the highway averaging about 75-80, got 16.7 m.p.h on that trip. For the size vehicle that was pretty good, the two in the third row were not the smallest and very comfortable, plus we had room for a ton of chit behind them, unlike the 3rd row in other large SUV's. I do think they never painted them yellow because Ford didn't want kids running up to them all the time. As for why someone wants to put a Duramax into his Hummer has nothing to do with resell, it's custom for Christ sake. What do you think of this car, should he have taken this OLD thing to the junk yard and bought a new mustang instead? |

Good luck on your project it does seem cool not going to lie, but not practical a single bit. You said you were single with money to spend, well might want to think about the day when your not single and have houses and kids and such. |

I guess if thats how you view life, I really dont do things for other people or do things to be the only one. To me doing dum chit because its cool or custom is not an option, but I am also married have a house, and other commmitments to take care of. But I guess if you can find 15k to dump into an H2 then fine its your money, personally dont see the sense in it. You may find an H2 cool but I dont and either did lots of other people hence why they are not made anymore.

And if you arent saving at least 10% of month into retirement you might dumb. Lets see drop 15k on a engine swap on a 5 year old vehicle or pay my house down, or save for retirement. Sounds mature for a 30 year old, i can now see why you are not married. |

Very invalid statement due to the fact that most people on here are married, and number two my wife doesnt work at some 10 dollar an hour job. I actually have more because she has a good job and a career. |

Save your breath with this tool. All he does is come onto peoples threads to argue with them. He was banned before for doing this, comes back under another screen name, and continues to argue with people. There's no reasoning with someone like this. So back on track for those who are interested, what's the progress on the conversion ? |
was coming to see how the swap was coming along but :poopoo: it's gotten a little more interesting
