duramax swap?

i have a H2 hummer with a 6.0l in it and its AWD, i want a diesel truck but i love my H2. Has any one done or know someone that has done a duramax swap like out of a 4x4 2500HD? i was thinking it would not be that bad of a swap because every thing on an H2 is HD motor and trans mount should be the same and im thinking it will bolt right up. Its the wiring that im not sure about. i know there a gear head on here that can help me out.

Sydwayz 10-05-2011 07:45 AM

The Allison that the Duramax requires is massive in size compared to the 4L80E/M32 transmission you have now. These dimensional restrictions are one of the sole reasons the D/A was never offered in the Suburbans, as the frame rails are too narrow. Your H2 is more Suburban/Tahoe that it is anything else and I think you will have the same problem.

There was a company called www.duramaxsuburban.com that was doing conversions which included a body lift on the to fit the Allision above the frame rails, but I can't get their site to come up.

Is that price with or without the donor vehicle to get all the running gear from??

the duramax is a night and day difference from the 6.0, my last truck was a 6.0, same cab config with a dmax and a edge tuner and the thing is a animal!

Price is with the donor vehicle turn key out the door with a year warranty ...sounds like a deal to me. and if you can find a awesome deal on a donor then the price will go down.

Price I was quoted was a New Duamax and Allison tramny.I sold my Hummer and bought a New GMC 3500 with duramax /Allison.The H2 Has a Great turning radius, but you could Feel my little light 28Skater move the H2 all over the road, and I need to haul my track loader.

ryder638 12-04-2011 09:14 PM

I dont know if it helps, but a few years ago i was going to do a diesel swap in an escalade. At that time the shop to go wit was a shop called MASH motors they quoted me 17k for motor swap only. 22k for motor, allison trans, and full suspention. i know that at the time they specialized in doing the swap in h2's but since h2's and escalades are on the same platform he said he would do it. I know MASH motors are all over youtube. hope it helps

ridefast77 12-04-2011 09:25 PM

I talk to Mash motor they told me 25k and Predator inc in CA said 30k. Eric at Duraburb in FL is doing it for $6500 for laber so it is going to run $11,000 with a 1 year warranty. there all over youtude to thay know there stuff.

TooTall 12-04-2011 09:57 PM

post up when it's all done . . .

soldier4402 12-05-2011 07:11 AM

Yes you swap the engine but what the purpose beyond cool factor. But I would think your not going to get the towing capability with the lighter frame and shorter wheel base

FASTTIMES 12-05-2011 08:56 AM

Awesome! Can't wait to see the final product - - I've been thinking about getting an H2 recently as you can pick them up on the cheap!.. 11k for the duramax is swap is a great deal

baja27 12-06-2011 05:50 PM

Ridefast77 good luck on that project, I am thinking about the same thing where did you purchase the donor ?
thanks

I guess, i mean not like diesels are blowing MPG out of the water right now. And here diesel is only 80-90 cents more a gallon.

I went with the ecoboost and got rid of my F250. saving me 80 bucks a fill up right now.

MPG wil go from 7-8 mpg to 15-16 mpg towing and from 11-13mpg to 20-24mpg highway and the H2 is a heavy suv so it will tow awesome, the dueamax will increase the value of my truck 35k and the cool factor :lolhit:

the chevy 6.0 liter is/was a gas hog and diesels are more efficient. But to see 20-24 highway, thats pipe dreaming you will not get double even if you do add the factor that diesel will cost you 50-80 cents more a gallon, will kind of take away from the MPG increase.

But still a cool project and Im not being a debbie downer. Wish I had the money to do cool things.

even if you are right. Take 400 miles for example. You get 20 MPG Highway vs 11 gas. Ok lets say you have a 30 gallon tank.
36 gallons of gas used at 400 miles gas here is 3.43 so 400 miles would cost you 123 same mileage for diesel would run you 20 gallons at 4.19 a gallon 83 bucks for 400 miles. But your dumping 15 grand into a build. Gonna take you 375 fills with saving 40 bucks a fill up to get your invesment back.

Personally your going to see maybe 13-14 Towing and 15-17 Highway. So really your probably going to end up losing money. Just doesnt make sense to me. Why not just buy a diesel, not if you go to trade or sell it, who would want it.

lets say you have a 2005 4 door 4x4 gas power chevy truck with 114000 and then tou have that same truck with a diesel. Once you hite 100k with a gas motor there worth goes to sh** but the diesel is just breaking in and is still worth good money
