Very cool thread!!

I don't know why everything has to turn into a pissin match on here. The guy started the thread asking if anyone had done a conversion like this. Several members listed sites and venders that do this sort of thing and ultimately he went with one of them and is doing his project (unlike the people that start a thread with no intention of ever following thru and are ultimately wasting the time of members that are nice enough to post info when requested).

At no point did he say he was doing this to save money and was looking to be as "green" as possible. I don't know if it is jealousy or what causes people to bash about everything but it is silly. For Christ sakes we are on Offshoreonly.com not blowboaters.com and hence we don't have the most economical pastime.

I for one really enjoy these threads and look forward to logging in to follow others progress.

I wonder if its any cheaper to do the swap in a truck meant for the Duramax.

I have a 2005 Dually with a 8.1,,,,I got a great deal on it and couldnt pass it up.

If I could get a duramax swap for under 10K I would still be in good shape money wise on the truck.

Cant wait to see how the truck turns out !!!

No it would be cheaper to just sell yours and go buy one, thats what i would have done but there are none because they were never made. but you never know you mite could find a really cheap dmax you would be ok.

Just asking the OP why and he got a little defensive. I mean its cool but is pretty dumb too. Guess he didnt like it. Kids these days you know. I understand people get pissy on here. Seems to get worse as winter approaches too! As I have said before people would never talk to each other this was face-to-face. If you don't have something to contribute to the post then move on to the next thread. I couldn't imagine telling someone their idea was "dumb. On a few rare occasions I have offered an alternative, but something subjective as this leave it alone. Just because you find it "impractical" or "dumb" doesn't mean your opinion is right.

A duramax H2 is cool as chit, bottom line!!! I can't wait to see the conversion and hear how the thing runs. Plus the extra weight will give her a little extra stability while towing. 15K on a swap or 55k on a vette..... Both are impractical but the guy with the 4dr suv that can tow, haul, and go fast, is getting :waffen093: that just doesn't make sense at all :lolhit:

ridefast, what drivetrain do you have (2wd,4wd,AWD)? Was it a 4L65E or 4L80E trans? I "thought" they got the 65 but that may have changed over the years.

Just brianfarting the conversion, specifically the transfer case.

h2 comes with AWD but when the conversion is done it will be push button 4wd and it was a 4L80E trans but now it is going to be the 6 speed allison.

Power takes fuel, older diesels like the 97 F250 I had got decent milage (20mpg@65mph,tuner,downpipe,exhaust) but made less hp,
the new diesels make way more power and the trucks themselves have gotten bigger and heavier at the same time so they suck down more fuel,simple as that, in my opinion most that have them just have them because they want the biggest and baddest , nothing wrong with that but dont ***** about fuel economy when you buy a 450hp 9000lb battleship to cruise as your grocery getter..


That H2 should be a cool hotrod when its done and its tuned

Intake, exhaust and EFI live and tuned to about 500hp on a short wheel base H2 is going to be fun, MPG is going to be around 23HWY, 17city and that way better then what it was at 11HWY and 8 to 9 city and who buys a H2 for MPG thats why i drive a VW :lolhit:

I have thought of doing mine, you can by a wrecked diesel for under 5 grand, but the labor seems to be where the work is at. wiring all that stuff to the dash so everything still works, that part scares me. but i bet its bad azz when its done.

About 3 weeks if everything good smooth. Here is the update, I had no fuel system so they had to fab one with a cooler from scratch, also you can see the before and after pic's of the ABS swap. Drive shaft will be ready Monday.

Just to bring everyone up to speed while H2's are very cool in thier own right they are not 4X4, nor are they 2500!

They are 1/2 ton AWD SUV's & SUT's on a 2500 3/4 ton frame with light duty 3/4 ton axels

I see a lot of talk here about the 4L80E transmissions and HD transfer-cases and that is NOT what is supplied in the H2

The 2003-2006 H2 is powered by the low power 300 HP LQ4 6.0L with a 1500 1/2 ton 4L60E transmission and the transfer-case is common to the 1500 Tahoe (and sometimes Suburban) 1/2 ton, RPO code NR4.

IT IS NOT A TRUE 4X4 and IT IS NOT A FULL 2500 RUNNING GEAR

Decisions decisions....
there are 3 different versions of DuraBurb H2 units.
All Duty= AWD OEM differentials retained 9.25" open front/ 9.5" user locked rear (ideal for every day driving)
Medium Duty= Silverado/Sierra full locking 9.25 front differential / OEM 9.5" user locked rear (auto locked in 4X4 mode) (best for off-roading)
Heavy Duty=Silverado/Sierra full locking 9.25 front differential / OEM 11.5" G80 auto locker rear (necessary for power levels 500-700HP)

Hope this clears some stuff up for folks

MPG My uncle says the 2 most commonly lied about truths among men are sex and gas mileage :)

Truth be known our clients see 14-15 MPG in town and 19-20 highway
with a 12K load (not possible with the H2) we see 12 MPG@70 MPH
