I don't want to keep mucking up the ILMOR MV8 thread...so I'll continue to muck up my own thread

One or two of these would look real nice in an offshore boat...and probably run pretty decent too. Wonder what kind of cost you'd be looking at to closed cool it and add the other marine specific parts?

Well I'm not real sure I would have called it mucking it up but what the heck. I just happen to be window shopping for some new exhaust for my gen 1 small block the other night and was amazed to see how many LS options there are out there now. It seems like just a year ago or so there was only one option... now the LS exhaust is almost as abundant as small block stuff (still a long way from matching the BBC stuff though).

LQ9 based with full marine accessories, closed cooling, bellhousing, coupler, eng. mounts, electronics, etc. -$25K
LS7 aluminum based same equipping - $35K

I know you love these things and since you are leading the charge here on OSO so I think its only proper that you buy and run the what may be one of the first here on OSO and report back to us.

Best Regards,
Ray @ Raylar

The narration in the video is hokey, but they have obviously done their homework building this engine.

Well I'm not baller enough to buy a brand new boat with a brand new high dollar LS powerplant...though I'd love to. I'm more of a DIY guy.

However...it's not my first rodeo. It's an apples to tomatos comparison (as you like to say) but I've already swapped an LS in place of a mildly built 454 BBC in my jet boat. In fact, I was one of the first to do the swap on an old jet boat. It's no offshore boat, but I picked up 3 mph and improved on every other aspect of the boat (weight, startability, idle quality, fuel economy, aesthetics (subjective I know), etc).

It's not assumption and conjecture. It's emperical data.

So how about that performance data for the LSMs you put in-hull?

Nice work guys! The LS's are coming... We just put some VVT 6.0's in the 29 Blackfin in the pic, just waiting for props 'cause the 400hp 6.0's have a bit more punch then the 330hp 454's they replaced. The X80 behind it is waiting on a pair of LS3's, I just sold another pair of LS3's to a customer in Michigan who's putting them in 1955 Chris Craft Corvette. This other old woody is getting 6.0's and there's more waiting.. I replaced a 496 with an LSA last fall and there is no comparison.
