I have two sets of F16 canopies , both are approx 5/8 thick . One pair formed from a single sheet , the other pair are laminated . The laminated ones are at least 5 ply if memory serves me correctly . I'd presume the laminated ones are probably better .
The drop in cockpit I had built for my Chris in '89 was 1/2" foam core with several layers of 1708 / 1808 fabric on each side . The deck was 3/4" core and glued to the cockpit flange . That assembly was then dropped into the boat and bolted though 1" by 1/4" aluminum angle on the underside to distribute the load . We had no hatches , just an opening and the rear "headrest" was framed 1/4" aluminum .
I really wish I had taken photos of this stuff back then . This pic shows the deck area and openings . I'm probably going to do something similar but better .

Was it the top cut out of the 1st test canopy causing it to fail? Looking at it in slow mo it appears it took the intial brunt and then failed at the cut line and cracked back toward the front.
Why would they not conduct that test using identical shaped canopies?

That was BT. More important is the response and retrieval times during the Page accident. Something or a bunch of somethings failed miserably and that is what any investigation should be aimed at.

Notice the deflection ramp in front of the Popeyes canopy (page 6) on the link below. I wonder why more boats don't have something similar looks like they were on track back then. Hope it's ok to post link.
