the other half is weight .

its power to weight.

I have oodles of reliable torque & relatively light weight.

+1 and add to that hull design.

My 30 Superboat (32 LOA) is as fast as my 31 Formula (33LOA) was with one of the engines from it. Of course I lost a lot of "Pleather" and a fridge too

It ain't quite like that in Texas.
I really couldn't think of any of my bud's who'd go for a single engined 30' cat.
Heck, I've been looking at an older 23 Eliminator wide body factory triple OB that was converted to a twin OB but still packing the triple set gauges in the dash. I'll only make an offer if I can find another motor to match the 2 and haven't had any luck. OMG those outboard guys are proud of their 2.5 EFI offshore OB's even at their age.
All I know is what a wicked river/lake boat this would be.

I guess it's the old Texas mindset, bigger is always better LOL!!!

See ya,
Kelly

Twins if you boat on open water. I have benefited from being able to limp home single engine on a couple occasions.

How about a single merc 1350 and a #8 drive in a DCB 32?

Twice for me also...from WAY over the horizon. I guess it's a tradition in the big water down here. It's not un-usual to take a quick 65 mile run to the Bahamas...reduces the pucker factor considerably knowing your doubled up.

I think we see a lot more twin set ups here for that reason.
