At cruise I can usually plan on 2 MPG @ 3400 RPM, with 425HP 454's.

WOT I've never actually run the numbers, but it impacts my range significantly :evilb:

About 22 GPH at cruise.

Philm 01-03-2012 12:36 AM

I can get about 2mpg at cruise, so about 27-30gph. At WOT I dont lose much due to the massive speed increase offsetting the increase in consumption.

soldier4402 01-03-2012 06:29 AM

most people from what I see use gallons per hour. But from what I have seen move people at crusing get 2-4mpg.

Club Drew 01-03-2012 06:47 AM

GPH Gallons per hour about 40!

If your boat can be assessed in MPG, you are on the wrong site. We're focused on killing the environment using 16 cylinders at a time.

I get 2-2.5mpg at 38mph depending on the load and conditions, if you get more than 1 mpg you can quote it that way if its less than you usually say GPH at xx MPH or knots

offshoresteve 01-05-2012 09:28 PM

The main reason to love outboards, especially on a 28 Skater......with 300XS I burn 30gals hr @ 90mph according to the SC 5000 computer.

I think you mean per motor so your really burning 60 gph at 90mph which is 1.5 mpg at wot which is still fantastic.

GLH 01-06-2012 11:55 AM

Top speed is 180 GPH... So 1 gallon every 20 seconds...

I got the same economy at 90mph with my 28 Daytona with twin 496's, I only got 2 mpg at cruise though I think the outboards are better at 60mph

ThisIsLivin 01-06-2012 04:04 PM

What's cruising? That sounds like something my Grandpa would do. My throttle has two positions, up and down. My engine builder told he was going to remove my throttle and replace it with a switch. I told him no, I wouldn't have anything to hang my hat on.

KNOT-RIGHT 01-06-2012 07:17 PM

Top of Providence river to Block Island and back

Roughly 90 miles. 268 gallons of fuel burned
Average speed 100mph.

How much fuel would I need if Charlie and Billy would let
me run in the 271 mile long island Don Aronow race?

Hey SS ..... I am just asking question ..... and it is just that - a question .. but not a serious concern. The insurance issue ? ... I lived on a lake for several years ...NO ONE that I was aware of had insurance. Now HERE .... where probably most put 20% down and finance it(and the lender requires that to protect their investment)...I can understand that then. ALSO .. in reading the other topic ...I see where it might be the plan. But I have yet to hear WHERE someone actually USED the insurance to cover their butt in a big $$$ situation. OR did I miss that ?

Now to hotAIR ...... bring your junk out ...OR don't you want to be beat by a "pontoon boat" ? ..

LOL

807 gallons of premium ? .... at nearly 4$ per gallon now ...and at-the-dock FIVE DOLLARS ?

$ 4,035.00 ? .... whatever floats-your-boat.

This is not out of my "league" ... but it does not register well on the cost for fun-factor meter. What works for me is jumping in my streeter ... bracket racing it for a total cost of maybe $150.00 ...with the possiblity of winning between 1-1.5k$ per day. OR taking my chopper out for a weekend cruise with my honey back-on the P-pad ....for maybe a 40$ bill for fuel ...

But if youz-guyz think that your "ROI" is worth having a big-titty drunken-bimbo that is more than likely BEING WITH YOU because she is nothing but a gold-digger .....

..if that makes you feel-good ...GO FOR IT.

No 30gals hr for both @5,000. If I remember correctly I burn 48gals hr @ WOT 6,300..... 115mph. Will be running the Skater this week, will double check those figures om the SC5000. I get almost twice the milage as my 2.5's, and They were fuel efficient. I typically put 20 gals a side and run the motors for about 1.5 hrs on a typical lake boating day, Ocean Boating I will burn 60-70 gals a day, but cover A lot of distance.

Come on now off-base-steve .... GET REAL .... and why don't you address a follow-up Q I had .... like WHEN have you used the insurance that was in place?

But ...probably in your case .. your boat is financed to the gills and you are FORCED to have insurance.

Just curious ... what kind of INSURANCE RISK are you anyways ? ... IN your whole life experiences? ... I have been a home and business owner for YEARS ....and of course a home-owner and industrial building owner too ....

.......and I have NEVER had any type of insurance claim....EVER.

I was just going on what Merc told me but i could be wrong. I was asking if they had mapped their fuel burn at various RPMs and was told to use the basic formula to take the HP and divide by 10 and you'd get the WOT burn per hour other than that he had no info to give me ?. I've got the long shafts so max RPM for me is 5850 before overspeed alarms go off.

You are an idiot, and extremely lucky. Clearly you have never been on the receiving end of a bull chit lawsuit. It happens every single day.

Just one example of many... Tie your boat up at the restaurant, while you are inside eating some a hole in a $800 bayliner rafts off of you because there are no more slips. His fat girlfriend slips on your deck and cracks her head. In this F'd up world, YOU could be found liable for part of those damages. Not worth it to me to save a few hundred bucks a year. I burn more gas every weekend than my insurance costs me for a year, but you don't "get" that either.

Buy a BlowBote.

THX for your genuine first-response .... your second ...NOT so much.

A couple of 100 dollars a year ? .... NO problem. But what some of these gauys are saying ...it is 500$ a month. Big diff there.

And JUST WHAT is your PERSONAL experience with a ROI on your insurance expenses ? .....and your example ? ... EVER HEAR of a non-slip paint application ON your deck?

Yes, my insurance is about $900 per year. My boat runs 78 MPH on it's best day, with a tailwind, down hill. (e.g. - it's slow)

Anytime you move into an extreme performance boat experience makes a huge difference on the premium. It's like a student pilot flying a mig. Huge insurance risk, huge premium. $500 a month is very realistic for the big hardware.

I have personally been sued for BS. The details are irrelavent, and it was not boating related. My wife was also involved in an accident with an underisured driver, $14k in damage, didn't cost me a dime. My insurance ROI has been quite good.

I don't get into pissing matches on here, I just call them like I see them.

Hope that helps.

RT930turbo 01-08-2012 11:17 PM

...and NON-SKID on my deck? Forget it. Anyone who doesn't have the courtesy to use my NON-SKID swim platform (Stupid fat girlfreind from above) deserves to bust their azz. And with the gloss up there, they certainly will :)

Then they can go after my insurance, while I have another beer and laugh. ;)

What's helicopter insurance cost?
How much is FAA licensed maintenance?
Is starting cost about $500K for a copter? That's $200K more than I've spent in 7 years on my hole in the water, including purchase, tax, insurance, fuel, maintenance, etc.

Can't argue the fuel though. A friend offered to give me a ride in his plane. I asked to fly from Everett to Mt. St. Helens by way of Mt. Rainier and back. He sighed and said that'd be a lot of fuel. I asked how much. He said at least 20 gallons. I about fell down laughing. He didn't get it.

Insurance?
Always had it. I hit something and busted a gimbal ring, prop and drive, and they fixed it. Repair bill was what I've paid for insurance over those years. My rates did not go up. Thanks Stacy!

The real question though.
How many HPD do you get?
That'd be hours per drive.
I've been fortunate???? at 100+hours.
