UD, just reread your last post and realized you were talking about the combined losses of wet exhaust as well as accessories. Though it still seems like a rather large number that makes a lot more sense. I wish pulling the accessory belt off of my T/A made that much difference at the track.

Haxby, basically that has been my point all along. I was not trying to bash their offering but more or less saying there is still more for it out there. It is by no means already maxxed out. Oh and for the record yes, I have at times said GM let me down (especially when it came to the crappy rear axle in the 4th gen F-body), but then again I got the full car for about what this motor will cost.

I would have thought with a tall deck they could have moved the pin down a bit, but do we know for sure it uses a tall deck. I don't remember reading from Ilmor that they used a tall deck unless I just missed it.

There have been lots of interesting posts on this thread about how the LS 454 compares to the classic big block, but the only true comparison is to a 454 big-block, not 502's, 540's, 588's etc.
I can't recall a major marine manufacturer EVER producing a warrantied 454 ci engine with torque and power numbers anywhere near what the MV-8 570 is making, and certainly not at the fuel burn numbers that it is likely to produce. Even if you had the option to go with a classic big-block that produced the same performance as Ilmor's 570, why would you pick one that burned a ton more fuel in these days of $4+ gas?
Haxby, Raylar and a number of others have it dead right: Run the Ilmor 570 and Mercury 565 in back-to-back tests in the same boat with the same drives, and you will get your answers...

How far off the mark is the LS in a sterndrive application?

I Would think they would be great for a twin BBC boat like mine. I have HP 500 efi's now, the savings on weight with a little more power would be a good combo.
A couple of bravo ASD conversions and a nice bullet proof combo.
Only problem,,,,,,,,,,, not cost effective.

I can see how many people on here go(or do not go) to the big boat shows (Miami/laudedale/etc)
LS engines have been multiplying across all manufacturers,
(except for Merc, they are way behind)
the big block will always be king in unlimited applications, NO ONE is arguing that,
but in meduim applications the LSx will perform as well if not better with less fuel burn and less weight,
anyone that argues that has not done his/her research..

How much efficiency are we talking about? 2%? 5% 10%?
I dont really see any numbers put on this claim, and Im curious.
