What is a juco ???
I just read the sticky on the top of this page. I read it because a long time member here and a good friend pointed it out to me.
Since we are experiencing the winter duldrumbs and perhaps IB thinks its a little slow around here maybe we could talk about the topic a bit. I'll make some points and then you guys can all jump in and agree or disagree. I'll start with who the phuck is Juco ?Other than obviously not knowing how to use the English language , they have 27 posts on here and after reading the posts I presume they are responsible for the technical portion of how this board works. They should get that part down right to start with. Of all the boards out there involving boating yak, this place is the slowest performing board I visit. With 27 posts they are hardly the right person to be putting that sticky up there. Speedgirl and the volunteer mods on here do a great job in my opinion. I dont think we need to hear from anyone else. TONE I've always equated the talk on here to a bunch of like minded guys standing around at a party yakkin about a common interest being boating. Those guys have a common denominator being that they are all " A" personalities. Anyone that wants to throw as much time and effort and a ton of money into this hobby as we all do has to be a little bent in the first place. To restrain their conversation and how they talk to one another is a huge mistake. They have to be able to post on here the same way they talk everyday. To restrict that in any way makes this a Vanilla conversation board and it becomes meaningless. If you travel around other sites you will see that a lot of the threads are discussing what is happening over on OSO. IB should read that as a plus. This place is still the mothership of boating forums and if you want it to stay that way you have to let people talk the way they talk. If someone in this industry wants to make a product announcement that remains a straight product announcement they should do it in their own builders section. If they want to do it in the "living room " GD section then let those that are reading it react to it as they wish. If it gets stupid then Speedy will take care of it as she always has, along with the other moderators. Case in point. There are some folks on here that have spent hundreds and hundreds of hours educating and entertaining this membership with build threads and picture threads that some of you like or dont like. One of the threads is in the top 10 largest on here. If they get out of shape on one thread you hardly need to consider banning them. Report them to Speedy and let her deal with it. Good Old Days Can someone please tell me what the " Good Old Days " around here is. Is it the parties and giant bar tabs on Steve Schubles credit card? Is it the yak about the boats that can run out on the ocean in 7 foot waves that take 3000 hp to go 75 miles an hour ? Who the phuck waits for 7 foot waves to go boating ?Nobody. Is it the constant yak about whose boat is fastest for the 15 seconds it takes to measure the ultimate top speed that may have happened once? Who gives a chit ? Try comparing boats that start and run everytime that you want to use them with your friends and family. Last point. I have never seen a sport or hobby that costs as much money to participate in as this one that is surrounded by con artists and poor service and thieves and rip off artists and pretenders. To read some of the posts on here from people that have never owned a boat is a joke. Rant over. To all the hard working good honest guys on here that love this sport and want to yak about it whichever way they feel on any given day............be safe and enjoy. |
Good old days ,SBRT , TMP 1800 gas motors , cheap Rolex watches,Big Scotty,
Steve in a garbage can, Troutly and the seven bros gang bang , how big is Nort's head to name a few :cool-smiley-027: |
Thanks.
Actually I posted it yesterday morning, my mistake for taking an existing announcement and changing it. I thought it would have posted my name since i revised it. I was very frustrated after waking up to many notifications of B.S. throughout the board. If you don't like how I do my job and my judgement calls i'd be happy to throw in the hat and let someone from IB to run this place. GFY |

The good 'ole days were voicing your reasonable opinions and not getting "poofed" by big-shot named advertisers here. Until that day returns, I am not paying for memberships here.
I understand the system today, and have great respect for Speedy and all the mod's. Most everyone here is entertaining and this is the only boat site I personally participate in. :) |
Aw man. . . . .what happened to the Juco smiley? . . . ..the one time we coulda used that :D
|
THANK YOU for all you do SPEEDY !!!
I would never want your job...... :thankyouthankyou: |
Thank You, but I didn't post for a thank you or praise.
The Mods and I love the board and do our best to try to make keep the place afloat. In the 10+ years for me moderating OSO I think the site is more lenient now then ever in some case. We can't keep everyone happy. Sorry |
The good ole' days.....................in simple terms.........................when SpeedGirl's avatar was animated, not frozen.:p:p

The good ol days!!!! MY DEFINITION I was around on here long before Schuble took over the reins and Steve did a absolutely tremendous job taking it to the level it was at...do I think it is still there??? Pretty much but it has some flaws and that is understandable!!!!! But I remember there was a core group of OG posters that became a tight knit group at one point some of them still post others dont but it was always a race to get to the chat room and have our drunken or non drunken ramblings every night and when Steve took over the reins he was very much part of that tight group...those days are over...yes I remember some great parties one at Monty's but the very first OSO party in Miami was over at Bayfront at the joint on the end!!!! Can't remember if it was a Hooters but I believe it was as that was Jeffery's favorite place especially his favorite boating destination in Newport Beach when we came back from the yardhouse runs among others we always ended up at Hooters to play the A role personalities and brag who could take the bigger waves...I remember making fun of many in our group as well as taking alot of jokes from my friends back then....I remember making fun of one of my good buddies red Fountain and calling it a swimming pool because of the wet ride he had that day coming back from Long Beach....I remember giving our fearless founder alot of sh!t over so many things...believe me I have countless hours and hours of stories!!!!! THEN....I got tired of all of the poppycock that came out and the politics ....it's no secret that I have left these boards for months even years at times but I have always returned because I still feel this is my family away from my family!!! OK now you can unload on me for my sappiness!!!!!! Especially you my phucking canadien pal!!!!!!! |

I personally think there are a small number of frequently posting members on this site that if they never made another post, site traffic and participation would increase. I still frequent this site and like it, but the quality of information has decreased and the amount of uncalled for attacks has become ridiculous. Seems to me the silent majority has moved on to other things and the internet tough guys have taken over around here. It is a shame really and I often wonder why Speedy and the other mods subject themselves to all of this, I wouldn't do that job if they paid me.

Good ole days for me was when the Northern NJ Spots thread was started... It was a bunch of like mind individuals, all friends, that went boating together. We busted each others chops almost every day. It must have been fun because I racked up over 10K posts. The past 2 yrs or so, not so much fun.
We actually went BOATING and used our BOATS together. We met a lot of people along the way including a lot of great friends that I met moving here to Maryland. I also miss the days of posting technical information and there could be back/forth discussions instead of someone saying "you should take it to XYZ builder and spend a ton of cash." When I first joined OSO I only posted in technical section. |

Can I add my rant?
1. Juco is obviously somebody at IB who was trying to HELP the mods by pointing out some of the obvious... or what should be obvious.... rules of internet posting. The fact that you guys feel free to "tease/slander/joke" about his/her internet name shows your lack of respect for being in IBs house. I believe similar conversations were had when it was Steves house. 2. Why does it seem that most have an "entitlement" attitude for being here? Everyone should be able to talk however they want? Really? When the "tone" of the conversations belittle, degrade and insult the other members, it should NOT be tolerated just like when you go into another public place, CLASS and COURTESY should be the norm, not the exception. I was in a changing room in a store yesterday and just outside the door were 5 teenagers where loudly f'n this and f'n that and GD this and F u that. When I came out, the teens were moving out of the store but it was obvious several shoppers were obviously uncomfortable. I thought how fitting of an example. The teens felt entitled to act and say whatever they wanted because they were spending money there. Entitlement. NOONE is entitled here. Not the membership or the mods. Is this really the direction you guys want for OSO? Does freedom of speech really give you the right to say whatever you want, where ever you want, to whomever you want? Was that the plan? Cuz it feels more like anarchy to me. 3. The good ole days were the days when EVERYONE felt comfortable and able to post without fear of being called stupid, told to do there research, or get a real boat. Were there irritating members? Yes. Were there clicks? yes. Was there good natured ribbing? Yes and thats the point. The TONE was helpful and friendly in nature. Not rude. Not mean. Not the way most of you would never accept someone talking to you or a loved one in public yet some think that is totally acceptable here.... as long as its directed at somebody else. I dont get that. I hope I never get that. and for the record..... the size of your boat of IF you have a boat is NO reflection on the quality of a post. Idiots are idiots and quality people are quality people. The slogan is for the love of the sport. Size of your billfold has nothing to do with the size of your love and respect for the sport. Do any of us have to be here? Nope. Sure dont. We can all walk away at anytime. Heck ... we can even go start our own website... Im here ... or still here.... because Heather is my friend. I love her. I love the sport. I love to boat. I love to be a boat btch. I love working on boats. I love cleaning boats. I love towing boats. I love racing boats. I love helping Andy with safety. I love boating. Wish people would practice a little more "do unto others" philosophy. Would make our job a lot easier. |
