I won't take my friends' money for gas. I don't think any of them even understand how much it costs to run the boat, because the few times one of them has offered it's usually a 20 in their hands. Really, I don't want my guests to think about that when I take them out. But they always help me unload and then wash the boat after we get back to the dock. Oh, and they usually bring beer.

for us it was econmics big cruiser big bills between dockage and worrying about it at the dock to winter storage to the crazy gas bills the cruiser never really gave me the need for speed fulfillment with my current boat it fits in the garage no worrys i tinker with it at home and on our days out we bring a friend or two but usually raft up with others we know still lots of fun

The way I'm seeing it is that a guy needs both. Powerboat all day then go back to the Lake house (which I don't have yet) let the lady's get all cleaned up then head out in a big ass Searay for dinner and dancing.

Yep. Have the cruiser in a covered slip with a lift to keep it clean, for every weekend use....and have the Fountain at home if we decided to venture to outta state. Problem is, as we have discovered, the convenience of just hoping in the economy car and driving to the lake where the cruiser is waiting for us, has become so easy, the Fountain never gets used anymore sine we bought the cruiser. 2 yrs it never left garage, last yr we took it out 2 weekends to Cumberland. The hassle of winterizing, registration expense, maintenance stuff like impellers, oil/filter changes each time, just makes it not worth the trouble. Don't see it leaving the garage this yr.

Guess I'm the odd man out. I love having a few more people in the boat with me and my wife, more fun that way. Thats one of the things I love about my parents 'toon. Load it down with 14 people and go party. Depending on what we have planned I usually cap it at 6 - 7 people total in the Baja.

I also never accept gas money except for the big poker runs where we agree to split it before hand. I'm going to ride anyway and I invited them. It's not like its costing me anything extra to bring them. Seems pretty ****ty to ask them to pay. Kind of like inviting someone over for dinner and making them bring their own food. I do expect them to help clean up at the end of the day and usually don't turn down a beer if they're buying.

Big Group - Small Group - I really don't care as long as it is the right group of friends. If they aren't starting fights or deliberately damaging the boat I'm game for the company (as long as they don't want to go out for 30 minutes and then come back in!!).

As for the gas money - I wouldn't accept it if they offered it.
