I won't take my friends' money for gas. I don't think any of them even understand how much it costs to run the boat, because the few times one of them has offered it's usually a 20 in their hands. Really, I don't want my guests to think about that when I take them out. But they always help me unload and then wash the boat after we get back to the dock. Oh, and they usually bring beer. 
Guess I'm the odd man out. I love having a few more people in the boat with me and my wife, more fun that way. Thats one of the things I love about my parents 'toon. Load it down with 14 people and go party. Depending on what we have planned I usually cap it at 6 - 7 people total in the Baja.
I also never accept gas money except for the big poker runs where we agree to split it before hand. I'm going to ride anyway and I invited them. It's not like its costing me anything extra to bring them. Seems pretty ****ty to ask them to pay. Kind of like inviting someone over for dinner and making them bring their own food. I do expect them to help clean up at the end of the day and usually don't turn down a beer if they're buying.

Big Group - Small Group - I really don't care as long as it is the right group of friends. If they aren't starting fights or deliberately damaging the boat I'm game for the company (as long as they don't want to go out for 30 minutes and then come back in!!).

I have never asked anyone for money, maybe it's just the friends i have but quite often when we get gas someone will pitch in or pay for my lunch, things like that.
but on the flip side when i have ridden in someones boat i do the same.

Another thing i'm not talking about going on a harbor cruise or putting around the lake but on runs where you are going thru 100's of gallons of fuel.

Captain's Table poker run last fall we invited a couple that we're great friends with. No fuel money (boat or truck), we paid for the hotel, and I even bought their dinner one nite. They helped with the boat and we all had a blast. Worth every cent to us.

So does that mean when you go for a run in someone else's boat you don't offer to pay for some of the gas?
I have never asked anyone for money, maybe it's just the friends i have but quite often when we get gas someone will pitch in or pay for my lunch, things like that.

The only time there is money involved is on a run and even that is when they offer. The guys stick around to help load/clean etc. Girls don't unless they are crashing the night

I like to have at least one other couple come along especially if we are doing a solo boat ocean run. Anymore an it gets too crowded.
Dan, I think your Formula would be a blast at DS if you want a constant party.
On the other hand, if you have people with you, you're kind of stuck with them the whole time. It would be hard to have to tell someone they have to stay on the dock because you want to go by yourself. Plus, the Cig kind of fits in better at that kind of event.
This year I'm going to be the one bumming rides so the shoe is on the other foot!
But, at least I will be an experienced boat biatch so hopefully I'll be some help to whoever is driving and will be buying food and drink
