28 Sonic/25 AT Tantrum?

Oh yea, My 25AT has the very minimal if any torque steer while getting on plane and after its up NO torque steer! So no LH prop needed. I can let go of the wheel in rough water(who in there right mind lets go of the wheel while running 50-60mph!?) and the boat tracks as if on rails. I did this after I upgraded to a full hydraulic steering to see how it would do, just once. I have a stock 502 mag with Gil exhaust and a K&N air filter and a stock bravo one drive with 600 hours on them with no mechanical problems and if you've seen my pictures I'm don't shy away from waves. This boat is rock solid and has been since Pat built it for me almost 13 years ago. Back to the running along at 50+ with a drink in your hand in rough water comment. I was thrown out of a boat at 80mph in '99 when a rogue wave launched the boat and it landed on its side tossing 4 of us out. No alcohol and both hands on the wheel and controls. If you want to go boating and drive with no hands and drink while doing so get a cruiser, and stay in Texas so I don't have to look out for you.
By the way the boat I was thrown from.........28 Apache. Driven by my brother who knows what he is doing when running a boat.
Drock get what you like and what fits your needs. Good luck with the search.

Well obviously R Addiction is in love with his Tantrum
I`ll have to say Texoma does have some valid points.
First I`ll say I don`t think any 25' boat is a good choice for Lake Michigan. I got pretty beat up on my Tantrum, the stand up bolsters killed my legs and back and usually the boat would come down so hard I thought it was going to break in half. First bravo 1 lasted 2 months I think.. the second XZ, 20 easy hours until I opened it up ONE time.
Current XR seems to be doing fine however for sleeeeevelss.
No TQ steer but constant adjustments to drive and tabs to get a decent ride and to prevent what I used to call "shooting for the moon". I guess thats whats called a 'drivers boat' ?
Chine walk scared me. Watching Addictions video I was taken back to how the boat used pitch side to side most of the time.
These are my experiences but I`ve never had another brand smaller boat so this may all be 25' related issues on Lake Michigan
This was typical "shooting for the moon" no matter the drive adjustments

Current boat is like a cadillac, no need for tabs, sit down bolsters are great, no crazy wind in my face, just point and shoot and it goes, 33 spans the waves so much better, no coming down so hard you thing your fillings are gonna fly out of your mouth, Lake michigan needs a 30+ footer imop

I only hit Lake Michigan a couple times a year. I just want something that can handle it when I do. If I boated there all the time, I would be looking at something bigger. Im also looking at the 26 Hustler with the ext. box from the factory now instead of the Sonic.

In that video you'll notice I was running at a bad angle across the wakes. I had to so the helicopter could get a good video. The boat has no chinewalk unless its in that type of water and if I am in that position I turn into the wave/wake and it goes away. Every boat has a learning curve, you just never gave it a chance Ice! But it didn't suit you so you moved on. Its all good!

Personally I wouldn't buy either, but if I must choose from your choices I'd pick the sonic for reliability reasons and the bigger cabin. The 25 AT will be a headache with big power.........short rebuild time, hard on drives, torque steer, and their just flat out ugly. Neither boats were built to handle speeds over 80mph so might as well get the cruiser. When they say "its a drivers boat" that means its going to be hard to drive and will handles like chit if you don't pay attention and constanty stay on top of the controls. That sonic will be much easier to drive with twins if it doesn't porpoise. You'll be able to sip your beer cruising 50mph. If it has hydraulic steering it will probably drive itself, unlike the AT.
Disclaimer - never been on either boat, but have had a "divers boat" and it sucked for me cause I boat to relax not race.

Drock in the end get the boat that you like the best and just make sure you get a ride on both of them before you purchase, then I'm sure you will have found out which one you will like the best. Good luck on your search!

Do us all a favor, if you haven't been on either boat as you have stated here, then SPECULATING things about either boat is useless by you. I haven't been on either boat either so I can't give an opinion which is why I stay out of it.
