Lots of other things to think of.

1. Storage a storage rental would probably be a must
2. Cant imagine boats of that size if they have one have a huge water heater, i have a travel trailer and the shower and crapper are a bit to be desired for long term living.
3. Does the marina pump out
4. Food preperation and storage
5. Laundry
6. Guest space- friends, new gf
7. Mail you might have to get a PO box, delivery from UPS and Fed Ex?
8. parking for yourself and guest
9. Hours of operation at the marina
10. Trash removal
11. Heating if needed and AC
12. Fresh running water
13. Cable/Internet

Lots of things to think about. Not saying dont do it, but I think its easier said then done. But I guess anybody could find a boat live on it and not worry about the things I mentioned and live a simpler life style.

Sounds like a great idea, ,,,,obvious pros and cons.

my biggest concern is getting the boat from one assignment to another in a timely fassion and the cost involved as it sounds like it could be the coast one time and loto the next.

Hope it works out !!!

This boat layout is one of my favorites for all-around comfort.
Only a 37, but fantastic layout, unreal economy as well.

that and if you live there a month and hate it, now stuck with a highly expsensive boat thats either going to be impossible to sell or you will get raped on resale.

Personally house boat or bust. Or try something smaller and cheaper, try that for say long weekends and such and if you like it move up. Even on a 50ft boat I would imagine the cabin space on something like that could only be 300-400sqft. I would not be living in that

Most of your concerns are not an issue with the right boat, which I agree the 400 is not. Would want a Aft Cabin or house boat. The Express Cruiser style does not lend itslef to live abord. If you are hell bend on that style something like a Trojan 440, may be a better fit. It even has a hydralic arm in the trunk for your bike.

exactly my point, i mean things like storing food, having a nice hot shower, or having to get up walk to a shower or ****ter might not be cool after a while. Simple things like a tv, or what about when its raining and your in a cramped area. clothing storage having to take everything out to find something.

Seems fun and cool until everything you need to think about, but I agree the right boat would make it a fun idea. But at the same time if your trying to get another women and you live on a 40ft boat in hobo life style then good luck. Or just the simple fact of having a hot shower arms length away, to me personally to use a public bathroom for a year sucks, did it deployed. Im telling you living deployed is a lot like living on a boat in the way that you have no storage, no mailbox, public restrooms, all these types of things get uncool very quick.

I would definitely buy a boat with a hot shower although you're right, it may be tougher getting a girl if I live like a vagabond on a boat. lol

Basically, I would only take jobs along the coast if I lived on a large boat. I would technically be able to take jobs 30-45 minutes from the marina because I could just drive there. Each assignment is typically 13 weeks long with the option to extend if the facility still needs me and I choose to extend it.

Price? Well, I was hoping to find something around $150k. I don't want to wade too deep just yet in case things don't work out in some way.

Someone mentioned earlier about the Silverton yachts....a friend had one of these and they are surprisingly roomy inside...can be found in your price range too.
