What is this?! An antennae?

These (crappy iphone) pics are looking forward into the tunnel on my 24 Skater.

There's no markings on it. Three tiny screws on the top but I cant get to them. There's no hoses (not a pump for a ballast tank like I originally thought) or wires.

Theres a single white round cord coming out of the top that has a connector on it like you would see on the back of a CB radio where the antenna goes in. Its just dangling there not connected to anything.

The other wires you see are the nav light, they aren't connected together.

Any ideas?! http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/8546/whas.jpg

Depth finder???

waterboy222 06-14-2012 12:15 PM

It wouldn't be a depth finder, it would have to be mounted to the hull to read through it.. this is on its own little shelf and theres about 8" of clearance under it before the tunnel...Plus it's so far forward, that part of the tunnel is well out of the water.

That was my first thought when I saw it. You beat me to it.

First knee jerk reaction...

...was that it is an "old school" auto trim/level sensor. Did a fair amount of research to prove or disprove. Found some, but nothing that looked anything like your picture. Did find some level indicators/switches, but enough different to not feel comfortable with saying that is what it is.

Looked for RF amplifiers. Nothing similar, plus to be an amplifier it would have two radio looking connectors and power to it.

In both cases, the ones I found all looked more like inverters than racor oil filter containers.

I think my first thought about some sort of auto trim/level system use is the best thought I have, but then I also think the "flux capacitor" idea might be right on!

Did you try to trace the white wire to see where it goes?

Here's another thought, could it part of a security system?

If you are into conspiracy theories, a terrorist bomb!
