I have no illusions that this project may have set backs. Considering this boat hasn't seen water in 8 years, I imagine anything and everything could go wrong. When the trailer finally backs down a ramp and the boat doesn't sink it will be checked off as progress. I enjoy working on boats so its just another day of fun for me with no big investment. Still under 4K and that includes 6 new tires for the trailer!

inthetundra 07-29-2012 10:40 AM

This week the trailer will get some lovin too. Replace the dried out, cracked bias tires with some 6 ply radials, check out the brakes and flush the fluid. Probably have my son put a new coat of paint on the wheels as long as they are off the trailer. It won't get towed far, but a flat still sucks no matter where you are.

actually oval port intakes work well on rectangle port heads. Its an old speed trick, speeds up the fuel charge velocity and bumps the hp and trq curve down a few hundred rpm. Also i have the original 365 Mags in my Scarab and i thought they were still cast iron intakes. I thought the aluminum intakes didnt show up till the 420?

I appreciate all the well wishes, I am truely enjoying doing this boat.

Fordtough150 07-31-2012 10:24 PM

Nice find! That boat cleaned up super good. All the hard work will be well worth it in the end, and it's already showing. Looking forward to seeing it on Castle Rock.

inthetundra 08-01-2012 05:47 AM

You can stop by and check it out some day when it's to crappy to be on the water....pretty sure there is a cold beer somewhere around this place!

Looking through my archives the other day i ran across an issue of boating with the test of your webbcraft in it. When i get back to ohio i will see if i can scan it for ya.

inthetundra 08-01-2012 07:50 PM

That would be cool. I saw one on Ebay yesterday, a 1988 35' with the radar arch, I really like that.
I got the new tires on the trailer today and the drive jack is all welded up and painted. Tomorrow I'll throw the wheels on it and the felt on the arms and I will be about ready to start the good stuff. Thanks to OSO I was able to throw this jack together and save some bucks that can be better spent elsewhere on the project

I know I have to pick some hoses and sadly that won't happen locally. Has anyone ordered from ebasicpower.com ? They seem to have decent prices.

I just went through the hose deal with BOTH my SBC's...had to have new everything. I dealt with Marine Power for mine...reasonably priced but when you're doing every hose on both engines it ain't cheap.

the deep 08-02-2012 02:00 PM

Art , You will find a little something extra in the package i sent you as far as hoses go . Now you can say i hosed ya !!....:lolhit::lolhit::evilb:

inthetundra 08-02-2012 02:36 PM

I guess I will hold off ordering anything.....did you put a new thermostat in the housing too? :evilb:

the deep 08-02-2012 02:43 PM

I guess you'll have to wait -n-see .:cool-smiley-011::wuerg019::fish:

inthetundra 08-02-2012 02:50 PM

I won't have to wait long.....I just checked the tracking number and it says it was delivered today. I know that housing didn't weight 13 lbs......hmmmmmm

inthetundra 08-02-2012 06:54 PM

Looks like I hosed myself in a way....I ordered that same hose the day you said you were shipping the housing hahahaha. Well at least I will have a spare. The housing looks great!

87MagnumII 08-02-2012 08:44 PM

Just found this in the swap shop. Might be worth looking into to match your current MAG engine.

ya, I saw that one, Gen 5. I already have a Gen 4 here, going to use it for now.

Is the one you have a mag engine or a modified 330?

inthetundra 08-02-2012 09:19 PM

Original in the boat is supposed to be 330, the one I picked up is suppposed to be 330. I have no idea if engine in boat is original, can't see why it wouldn't be, it has aluminum intake. The one I picked up has cast intake. First goal is just to get the thing running. If things work out I can always get a pair of engines. It isn't hard to pull them. I'm just a regular working guy with bills to pay so funds are limited. I can turn wrenches no problem. I'm making more progress than I planned this year so its all good.

machloosy 08-03-2012 07:42 AM

Keep rocking man. It looks real good

inthetundra 08-04-2012 07:00 PM

Took a break from the buffer and cleaned up the front seats....they cleaned up really good except for a little area on the passenger seat that looks like something dripped through the cover over the years and faded a couple small spots. Maybe some of that stuff for vinyl will bring it back. It's still progress!

Buffing out a boat this size is a PITA My arms feel like they are going to fall off after today

inthetundra 05-07-2013 09:08 PM

It looks like winter finally gave up. Commuting and working 6 days a week has changed to a closer location and weekends off again. Pulled the project out and ordered some parts. Will be going through the gimbals and installing bellows, bearings and whatever else needs it. I got the tig set-up going and my kid is back from commercial diving school and is welding up some more outdrive jacks. Looks like we are off to a good start.

Hey Art , is your son going to weld those jacks up underwater ? :lolhit: I'm glad he is home with top honors from the school ! Happy to see your project moving again . You two have fun .

inthetundra 05-08-2013 08:15 AM

He won't be welding those underwater, but I told him he could get the trash pump out and start dreding the pond since he has that nice dry suit with him hahahaha
In case anyone hasn't figured it out, Sam gets credit for recommending the school my son Tony went to.

inthetundra 05-15-2013 09:02 PM

Got serious and started working on it again. As soon as the paint dried on the 2nd outdrive jack, both drives got pulled off the boat and the gimbles gutted of all rotted hoses, bellows, old bearings, seals and crappy wiring for the trim switches. A few of the parts I am waiting for will be here by friday, I should have everything cleaned and ready for reassembly.
I did start tracing some of the wiring that looks like a damn birdnest in the cuddy. Some people just shouldn't be allowed to touch stuff. I'll probably just strip most of it out and run new so I know what its for and that it is hooked up correctly.

inthetundra 05-19-2013 08:52 PM

Getting everything ready to put the gimbals back together and was curious about this plastic vent tube? The one in the other gimbal is all spliced and looks like crap. Does anyone know what it is actually called and have a part number? Thanks

inthetundra 05-21-2013 05:28 AM

Nobody knows?

Knot 4 Me 05-21-2013 07:25 AM

Pretty sure that is the water pickup tube for the speedometer. It is missing the yellow barbed connector at the end that plugs into the lower unit. You have to unplug the connector from the lower unit when you pull the drive.

The connector is part 16 in this chart. You'll have to copy and paste as for some reason the link won't save correctly.
