New project

My son and I came across a Webbcraft Offshore T454 sitting at a local repair shop. I know, Webbcraft?? Off brand, out of business company. Well the old man that owned it died. He had just stuck about 8K into it redoing the interior and it never even went on the water. Downside, missing one engine. It does have nice complete bravo 1 drives and the other 454 is running. It comes with a nice tri axle trailer and the guy will deliver it to my shop for free. Total cost to us is $2000. I love driving bigger boats. I ran 34ft patrol boats in the gulf, some with twin jets, some with Konrad outdrives and had a blast. For the money I figure we can't lose. Even if we ended up parting it out we will be money ahead, the drives alone would cover our investment. It should be here next week, so after we give it a bath I will post a few pictures.
This would be a lot more fun than the 20 footer we have.

dereknkathy 06-24-2012 02:08 PM

drives, motor, trailer are worth more than 2k. on other hand, webbcrafts aren't renkens. they don't suck, they just ain't beaks. most all companys are out of business, or were at one time. the only parts you would need from the manufacturer are hull parts. if it needs hull parts it is probably worthless anyway. sounds like a home run. hit it and run the bases!!!

she's no pig. she just needs somebody to climb in the shower with her!!!

inthetundra 06-24-2012 07:22 PM

There will be 3 of us plus the power washer attacking it next weekend. Some good old soap and water along with some elbow grease will make it look a bit different.

CigaretteSam 06-24-2012 07:35 PM

Looks like a classic! Neat boat, thanks for sharing! Keep us updated!

johnnyboatman 06-24-2012 09:11 PM

inthetundra 07-03-2012 09:17 PM

Well, I finally got it home today. Cut off the shrink wrap and threw a little soap at it. There is a long way to go, but I know this is going to turn out nicer than I thought!

inthetundra 07-04-2012 06:13 AM

It's kind of like one of those barn find corvettes or hemi cars you used to hear about! Most of the stories were BS, but there were a couple that really happened...like this one!

mach1magnum 07-04-2012 07:53 AM

nice classic you stole her for 2k good luck with her

inthetundra 07-04-2012 08:21 AM

Thats for sure, I figured the trailer was worth more than that!

J.B. Marshall 07-04-2012 08:39 AM

You have a classic for sure, I almost bought one back in the 80's. Giving her some good tlc will bring her back to life, best of luck and I'm sure you will get a lot of satisfaction when you get her wet :D Keep us posted on your progress and provide us with lots of pics.

Nice! Engine compartment pics?

inthetundra 07-04-2012 10:48 AM

Hopefully will have the hatch open tonight, already about 100 out there and places to go for the 4th

glassdave 07-04-2012 02:46 PM

Cool, looks like its cleaning up well. Man you cant go wrong for that money. I use to have the sales brochure for that boat somewhere. There was a dealer close to me and they would have boats in the mall for winter promotions.

bert4332 07-04-2012 03:37 PM

Damn, did you use a compound and buffer or is that just from the power washer? Looks great.

glassdave 07-04-2012 04:03 PM

They use to also make a 35 that was real pointy. Wonder where their hulls were derived from.

inthetundra 07-04-2012 04:45 PM

Thats just cleaned with the power washer and a brush with soap. Will start buffing it out next week if this heat ever breaks. It's 107 right now and the AC in the house feels great

noli 07-04-2012 06:24 PM

.

Wow, simply amazing, and you haven't even buffed it yet :)

Looks great, please show more pics!

There's a thread on here I think from 2008 with a son from the owner of the company. He explained a lot of things regarding the boats.

inthetundra 07-05-2012 09:37 PM

I was hoping to have the engine hatch open today, but my shore power cord didn't make it here. Kind of hard to raise it without power I guess. hahaha Just spent some more time cleaning after it cooled off, it was 104 here again today.

inthetundra 07-06-2012 08:41 AM

More cleaning pictures, before and after of the bow. Still only soap and water, no polishing at all.

WARPARTY36 07-06-2012 11:03 AM

Nice find!!! If memory serves me right, Bill Webb built those somewhere around Grand Lake in Oklahoma.

Great find!

Enjoy!

Finally got around to opening the hatch today. Going to need a complete set-up, but at least they didn't hack everything up removing the old engine. The only spare parts are a set of valve covers and the spark arrestor. I was pretty happy that the engine compartment was still pretty clean considering everything and how long it has been sitting.

stickman811 07-08-2012 07:01 AM

This is one of the best threads I've come across on this forum. You had to just about Poop your pants when you finished washing it and stepped back to have a good look!??!

It took me about a month on mine to figure out what that blue and white "gizmo" is hanging on the transom. That's a trim tab pump...Levelor I think...I replaced mine with a Bennett,,,couln't find parts. I would suggest you find a way to mount those drive trim pumps WAY up above the bottom of the bilge as well.

You have a very solid base to build on...brings back recent memories. Have fun.:evilb:

inthetundra 07-09-2012 11:34 PM

I do have a line on a couple engines. One of them has a closed cooling system with the heat exchanger. Is that a simple conversion to eliminate that to match the other engine? It does have the raw water pump and everything else.
I did get the boat backed into my shop today and will probably start buffing it out tomorrow after work. It looks so much better already just from some basic cleaning.

I have a Webbcraft also and had a couple in the past. All the their interior layout looked the same thru out their model line up. They are good boats back in their day and can handle fairly rough water pretty well. They liked to compare their quility towards Colbalt back in the same timeframe.

They are not that fast but the drive / ride is very manageble thru out their model line up. Your model should be 3030 Concorde as shown in the pics. I own a 2400 Discovery Openbow and it is the size of a 26 to 27 footer of today. Their 21 footer is like a 23 footer of today as well.

Webbcraft in the early to mid 80's used a ton of teak all over but got away from it by the late 80's but still used some. Powerboat mag did a test of the same boat in the late 80's or 1990. I have the mag somewhere. Also I have the complete line up brochure from them during that timeframe.

Bill Webb was the owner and had 3 sons that worked for him at that time. Their manu plant was Hwy 169 South, Collinsville, Oklahoma. I talked to them years ago and they said they made money manu boats up till about 1990 but still built boats to 1998 or 1997 then called it quits.

The one son spun off and made a line of his own boats and was almost an exact copy of some Webbcrafts and the 30 footer here was one of them. I forget what he called his brand name of boats.

Webbcraft started building boats in 1971. thru out the years they built boats from 17 ft to 35 ft. Cuddy and openbows. Bill Webb sons names where Brad, Gy, and Greg and like I said one of them went out on his own for a while building boats called Newman - it just came to me the name of his brand of boats. I also see a few in for repairs from time to time and like most boats from the 80's and early 90's U have to watch for wood rot even in the transom area. These boats are fairly well built thru out and the rot usaully is the owners fault of improper storage or leaving standing water in them overtime.

One thing they did do was used fiberglass stringer grid and laminated it to the hull then filled every cavity with foam. Also 22 mills of polyester gel coats was used for the outer hull / deck.
