And this is the first time I've heard of a wide beam boat being better in rough water. Workmanship on the PP is pretty well acknowledged as very high.

33 Powerplay came to mind as well. Need to look at those (and go for a ride) before you pull the trigger on something else.

In that price range

32' Active Thunder
33' Powerplay
35' Cig Cafe racer
33' Sutphen

In an attempt to contribute to the thread...

a) Which of these will be fastest with identical power?

b) Which has the best rough water capabilities?

I have no idea about the other boats, but the 33 PP with 525s runs 88-89 with stock 32s and that's from first hand experience.

Sharp entry, 24 degree conventional hull (the old Cobra racing hull) and legendary build quality will give an outstanding rough water ride. In fact, if we didn't have chop out in the Sound it was very disappointing for my wife and I.

The 34' Phantom will chew-up and spit out the suggestions with the same power. As far as rough water capability, the 34' Simmons Marine (formely Twisted Styx) has over 30 victories in all kinds of water condition. The 34' has been a very successful race boat, one a new 34' Race Boat was just built this past year.

And you price range, I know where there is 34' Phantom pleasure boat (never a raceboat) for sale with almost new motors (Dart 540cu.in. EFI), and both Bravo lowers rebuilt for preventative maintenace purposes, spin 34' Labbed Bravos props 5000 rpm at 90 mph, will run 91-92. Fact not fiction.

Stephen (pm me if intertested).

I to am gonna give a nod to the Donzi 33 ZX here, exc rough water boat, fast 525's gets you 80+
The prev statement about it being the biggest is probably regarding cockpit/cabin room, super nice cabin also for overnighting... I will not compare directly to the PP as i've never been on or in one

OK I'm surprised no one has said a 38' Fountain....:eekdrop:
