For that price range you could find a real nice 33' Baja. Also look in the classifieds there is a 32' Hustler with newer power. I don't have any experience in any of these, but I'm guessing the Huslter is on par with the Active Thunder and PowerPlay in it's rough water capability.

I have a friend with a 33' Outlaw that really did well overall.

But... is a mass-produced boat like this going to hold up anywhere near as well as a 33' Powerplay if you go beating the hell out of them in rough water on a regular basis?

I'd love to see more information (maybe even a geeked-out spreadsheet) on build comparisons between different models. IE, excactly how the hull and deck are laid up, how they're joined, materials used, structural members, etc. That's probably asking a bit much, but that's what concerns me with a boat that's going to get somewhat abused in the rough.

And this is the first time I've heard of a wide beam boat being better in rough water. Workmanship on the PP is pretty well acknowledged as very high.

It's not that bold, I don't even consider PowerPlay because they haven't built many and the resale market is limited (pretty much non-existent).

The original poster also had a budget and IMO the 33ZX can be had within his budget if he shops around (and yes, there are multiple for sale). It's also a freaking huge 33. Over 9000 pounds dry weight which will certainly help the ride. It's very tall, lots of freeboard in the cockpit which is very welcome when you get into the big stuff. the height also makes the cabin actually usable (you don't have to crawl around in it). The cabin is equipped with a galley and head so it can qualify as a second home which can really help from a $$ perspective.

The 33 resale market is limited because nobody wants to part with theirs.
