Drain plug led light
#24
I cut the wires shorter, just enough to be able to reach and locate off the bottom, so that when I wanted to remove it I just unplugged it. Hooked it up to a spare switch on the dash for ease. The shorter wires allowed it to turn w/o twisting the wires off. I tried it for a couple weeks, then took it out.

Same here. I complained, returned it, and they sent another one. ...it lasted about 2 months. In their defense, they stand behind their product, but as I mentioned to them - it needs a little more FMEA.
We use our boat alot, and I remove the drain plug everytime we get off the water (as I think you should). The wiring harness just wouldn't hold up to repetitive twisting.

For those having problems. Would you mind replying and saying which light you have? The cheap $50 unit, or the more expensive $300 one?
As for removing it at the ramp and letting it hang for the trip home.....common sense would have to prevail at some point in time. The boat I did the install on seems to drain just fine when he removes it after getting home. 6 days of sitting with the light out seems to allow all the residual water time to escape.

I've had 3 of these - all failed due to twisting of the wire harness.

+1 . You get what you pay for! I would be very careful what goes under that water line.
