I see limitations as to who they will insure being even more stringent than they are now. So, in other words I see go fast boats and esp cats getting even more expensive to insure and just less of us being eligable for and ins policy period.

Hey Doc, is it even possible to get insurance on a boat like My Way? Who in their right mind would insure that boat?

it is ironic here in ny u need a safe boater class for a jetski but anybody can go buy a 150mph boat and just go

No actually you can't... You can't get insurance on a cat of any kind unless you have a clean history and cat experience. Otherwise you have to take the Tres Martin or another performance boat driving school (which I did by the way) so keep your keyboard to yourself unless you know what you are talking about! It is exactly comments like that which cause people to think "just because someone has enough money to have a nice boat with big power that somehow they are idiots!" I can assure you being an idiot has nothing to do with money and most of us worked very hard to get the money to buy our boats so we are doing something right...

nope... maybe with Lords of London or something like that. Most of those type guys are self insured with huge umbrella policies to protect their assets.

well you don't have to get lippy about and tell me to keep my keyboard to myself, instead ask why I think that and I will tell you that I know of 3 people who own cats, that did not go thru a school, and I know for a fast they have insurance, and that there on there first cat, maybe they know something you don't? I don't really know, and for that matter how about I'll just call out the 100+ mph V bottom then, cat/v-hull whatever

Look how fast cars go,
how many people die every day on the road
We have speed limits , lights
but we all still drive everyday
**** happens

These two threads have reminded me why we have laws and lawmakers telling us what to do - much more than I'd prefer.

Some people don't seem capable of seeing the wood for the trees. Or any concept of what is at least likely to happen next, sooner or later.

I find that very disappointing.

ARE WE GOING TOO FAST...Yep. And in time if left unchecked, no municipality will support such an event due to liability (first responders are now under scrutiny). Take it to the bank.

CAN WE POLICE OURSELVES BEFORE THAT HAPPENS...Only when a consensus is reached and we quit blaming others for our actions . Based on the other thread, I think we have a long way to go.

I understand that going fast at these events is dangerous but look at it this way. How many times are you driving down the Inerstate and in the middle of pooring rain an 18 wheeler goes blowing by at 80mph. That my friends can take a lot more than 2 lives. We still get on the road everday though. Point said we know the risk. We choose to take it. Runing your boat up the water as fast as u want is one of the last freedoms we have left. Im an avid fisherman and im watching my passion being ripped apart by government and conservation groups. trust me the last thing the sport needs is nazi police. JMHO Besides if you govern speed on these water ways all thats gonna happen is people are gonna run offshore to haul AZZ and thats even more dangerous

do you need insurance on a boat in most states or provinces? I was under the impression you did not need insurance, stupid to not have insurance? probably, but in PA anyway, it is not needed, I think in a lot of states it is not.

the original post you quoted did not mention insurance at all, rather a boater safety course, same here in PA, everyone needs it for a jetski, or anyone born after 1982 (I think), but someone not fitting that, could go buy a 200 mph boat and off they go. not using or implying this as an example of anyone, just stating a fact.

It comes down to using some plain ole common sense and good judgement. Oh...and taking responsibility for your actions!
