I did attend the safety meetings for a couple of years

First one by Poker Runs America – Some good ideas came out of the meetings but I was not invited back after we quit putting on our event

and the other called "Be Safe" Was a bit more extreme and I voiced my dismay with a couple of attendees. I only think they had a few meetings and then were gone

I believe PRA still has there meeting the week of Miami Boat show

I have heard nothing about the "Be Safe" since Extreme Boats Mag closed (they were instrumental in organizing this)

Problem is that the promoters do not want to alienated, and participants do not want to be told what to do. In the end I think it helped a little bit but the BIG issues were never unanimously agreed on

I witnessed something leaving the LOTO Shootout last Saturday that could have affected the future of that event. As everyone had just come onto plane at 4 Corners leaving to beat the rain, a small tri-hull runabout was running off to our starboard in the main channel. The boat was very hard to see in the water due to the size of the swells, the size/color of the boat, and the darkening skies. I don't beleive this boat had been in the spectator fleet and was just minding their own business when the armada was coming at them from behind out of the Shootout. A Formula 400 SS came screaming past us, pounding big time in the swells, and was headed straight for the back of the tri-hull. At the very last second the driver of the Formula saw the little boat and cut hard to port directly in front of our path. Had the Formula ran over the tri-hull you know the Shootout organizers would have been involved in the resulting lawsuit. So even strictly controlled events can be at risk if we as participants or spectators cannot properly police ourselves in and around an event. There was no excuse for the driver of the Formula to be running the boat like he or she was at that time. They had to be beating the hell out of boat and themselves.

Trust me it only takes one accident and one dirtbag attorney and it is all over

I think this video is a perfect example of "too fast".

For the most part, that looked like a good ride until he went far port and inside some docks no wake bouys! Had I been out there on my dock watching my kid swim and this jackwad came within 50 ft of my dock, I may have taken a shot at him. I didn't watch the whole video(didn't have 21 minutes of my life to waste), but there was some of the ride that looked fine (no traffic close), but some of the video looked a little too close. If he had to pee so bad, why didn't he just stop and get in the water???

...Is that really what you think ? What speed do you like or don't you like speed period . Do you drive a car in traffic ? At what speed do you drive it ? Maybe you should stick to a Moped ...

My problem with the video was NOT the speed, it was the lack of discretion. Maybe I just didn't notice it, but I never saw him pull back when things got crowded or his angle of approach was blocked. I blast down my local lake at WOT many times! But when Joe pontoon, or Bob wakeboat crosses my path or encroaches on my path I pull back on the sticks until I am clear to hammer down. I LOVE to see go fasts, go fast!! My boat is not anywhere near as fast as that boat or most of those in PRs, but don't EVER think just cause I'm not as fast as you, that I have to give YOU the ROW. Then it becomes a pissing match for sure.... Just sayin....

On my home lake (in the back woods of Arkansas), my boat is considered a "Go Fast"(mostly cause it's bigger and louder). We don't have speed limits, noise limits or are harrassed by the WP too much. But I see a national focus on performance boating "Coming soon to a lake in your state" if too many accidents are attributed to our passion. Like I said, I LOVE seeing fast boats go fast! I also like the freedom I have to enjoy MY puny little "go fast", while excercising restraint. There is a place and time for everything! I remember when I was a kid, the local LEOs would look the other way when me and a bunch of my friends would go to a remote stretch of highway to "stroke our egos with our hotrods". As long as no one got hurt, and we were safe, they were cool. All it took was a close call with a "non hotrod" traveler for that to be gone. We are THERE NOW!

Ok, I'll shut up now!

I wasnt' commenting at all on Donzi's post. I was commenting on the video! NOT TOO FAST! TOO OUT OF CONTROL!! That was cool video for sure, did he get lucky a few times? HELL YES!! But you can bet your sweet A$$ that if something would have happened, like he plowed a boat he couldn't avoid, the video would either be states evidence, or would have been destroyed IMMEDIATELY!! I'm not the enemy, only stating the obvious. If I could have a 110mph boat would I? HELL YES!! Would I drive it like my ass was on fire for 21 minutes on a crowded lake, hmmm not so much. Yall can flame me all ya want, I'm a nobody. I'm not good friends with a big name boat mfr, or know some big bank hank with more dollars than sense. Just a common guy, with a common job trying to save my hobby....
