weekend Outerlimits boating accident on chesapeake bay
Did anyone hear about a performance boat rollover after the poker run ?
|
Heard it was an Outerlimits
|
What I heard on Facebook, BUT not confirmed and was NOT part of Rock the Bay!
I heard a boat was doing 85 and they caught a wave wrong tossed the passengers out, boat continued to circle them as they floated until someone rammed it with their own. Wow! That is scary stuff! ESP for a v bottom. Was it rough out? Let’s Rock took one for the team. Hats off to them. Hope the injured are going to be ok. It appeared to be some broken bones and bad lacerations. Apparently the OL did a full barrel roll and ended upright and still motoring with no occupants. And yes it was well after rock the bay had ended. That's crazy, good for "lets rock" taking control of the situation sacrificing his own equipment and safety for the protection of fellow boaters. I just got off the phone with xxxx and xxxx. they would like you to know that they are fine. xxxx phone is not working. xxxx is reaching out to everyone as best as she can. she is hopeing to get out of Christiana soon. most importantly they want to thank everyone for thinking of them. So glad they are ok. That was super scary. Everyone needs to wear those teachers. They were all ejected and the boat was chasing them in circles. Thank god xxxx xxxx was able to ram into their boat and stop it. |
No safety lanyards?

I dont know why some people refuse to wear the lanyards. I have a quick clasp i attach to the vest or just to my trunks just in case
|
Sounds like the driver/occupants were damn lucky, many times over.
Lanyards save lives folks. And apparently so does a brave soul willing to tear up his own gear to save your life. I wonder what kind of insurance mess that will cause. I'd love to know how he rammed the boat to stop it. I'm curious if he may have aimed for it and jumped aboard, or had someone jump at the right moment. |
Looks like a 46 Limited
Kudos to the guy doing the "PITT" maneuver! |
Glad to hear such a positive outcome........I took a soft jetski lanyard and affix it the the kill switch of all my boats. Easy to slip it over the wrist.
|
Very sorry to hear about this accident. Hope all is ok w everyone invloved
|
A lot of outer limits barell rolling lately. Glad everyone is ok. Kudos for let's rock!

If I even run into the fella who risked his own safety and tore his chit up to prevent injury to a fellow boater dinner is on me (-: |
DG is a good guy....I'm sure they will work out the damages to his ride without insurance

Hero in my book. Thoughts and prayers for the folks injured. Please keep us updated. |
Great move at the right time! hope everyone will be OK.

I have my lanyard with a wrist strap that I wear at all times while underway. When i stop I trow it over the throttles to remind me to put it back on when leaving.
|
I wish all a good recovery and hats off to a true hero... Incredible act of courage!
|
I started wearing mine quite awhile ago after reading stories like this. Not only the sheer horror of having yourself or passengers ejected being run over, but at speed, think of your boat continuing on becoming a dangerous missile on the water. I test mine every so often, intentional or not ;)

I need a better set up, something easier than my set up^^^like that.....where did you get your wrist strap? is it lanyard specific or did you adapt it from something else like hiking or something?

From what I heard, the boat was heading for one of the guys in the water and the guy drove into the boat to divert it and kept it from hitting the guy in the water. Next move was to get in front of the unmanned boat and let it drive into the side of his boat while jumping onboard to kill the engines .
There appears to be 2 impacts on the unmanned boat . 2 impacts on the other. 1 dead on the nose and the other where it appears the unmanned boat drove up on to the deck of the rescuer's boat... No doubt his actions saved lives. Great jo P.S Keep them all in your prayers... Some are in serious condition ..... |
If someone can set up a fund to help him with the damages to his boat if he needs it, I'll donate some...SuperHero stuff for sure

I use a generic PWC lanyard that I bought from Overtons.com, and I have a small carabiner I picked up at Lowes or Home Depot. I clip the lanyard over the bottom of my shorts or to the waistband. It keeps it completely out of the way, and I still can move across the boat if I need to. You can get any of these items in a multitude of colors to match your boat as well vs. the stock Merc red cord setup which goes to crap within a few outings. http://www.overtons.com/modperl/prod...7&merchID=4006 http://www.overtons.com/modperl/prod...7&merchID=4006 Just snip the plastic PWC kill switch rings off the end with a large pair of dykes, and stick the loose end of the lanyard into your kill switch. It works perfect, but make sure you test it by RIPPING it out, not just a simple tug. |

I use this one. My boat came with one and I ordered a second one for my bass boat. They work great - I don't even realize it's there. |

As for lanyards, I am +1000 on that. I bought a cheap nylon quick-release dog collar at WalMart (they come in designer styles - I think mine is skull and bones) and wear it around my ankle. Super easy to put on and take off, it doesn't get in the way while driving, and it works! But then again, I am the guy that (almost) always wears a 100MPH life jacket, too. |
The wrist and ankle straps are a great idea....the extra set of lanyards in the glove box makes perfect sense too!

I never thought of PWC stuff.....A wrist or ankle set up would be cool...I need something easy to put on so I use it EVERY time.....having a runaway boat would be awful.....
