Great advice !!! I was there in 2004 and watched that guy skip down the course. It was dead silent as we all watched in horror as that boat went over. So glad he survived with minor injuries. He had a horseshoe in his pants that day.

Matt--Next year please post this about a week earlier. Most guys have been down at LOTO for a few days and will not read this...

Well stated Matt! It has been said one can roller skate on water at about 60 MPH. Most of us are going well over that. Good boat rigging and preparation, great driving skill (and prudence) and nothing but the best safety equipment are all required here.

What were the factors that lead to that incident?

At the old Shooters course there were sometimes hidden rollers coming at you, and he caught air and had no time to back out and save it.

Yep Callan had a close call a few years ago. They broke a rudder and got a little loose if memory serves me correctly. It was an incredibly skilled recovery, and no one was injured.

Matt, I was front row for the above event and it was devastating to watch, not to mention to have very little to do. It was shocking but a blessing to be able to shake his hand the following days at one of the shooters booths with the pictures in the background. I wish everyone safety and good health this weekend and hope this is not repeated! Have a great weekend!!

Though I wasn't there in 2004 when the incident happened, I recall those rollers from years past. They seemed to come out of nowhere, and they were nasty.
