CRUISE WITH AN OFFSHORE
I somewhat frequently ( 3-4 times a summer ) cruise 300-400 miles one way in my Cig. Occasionally farther. Two or three couples go and we split the fuel costs. We generally cruise around 50 mph and get about 1.5 mpg. I cruise the Tennessee River from Knoxville down through Alabama and points beyond. Long distance cruising is great. I really don't care to cruise at 20 mph like most cruisers though.

Cruised from Marietta to Cincinnati and back over 4 days last week. 300 miles and 5 locks each way in a pair of 28’ Daytonas and a 24’ BAJA.

rbtnt....and what were you in?
cpqtim........throw the 12 volt overboard and buy a 1 burner Butane stove....it does coffee in 8 minutes. That 12 volt perker left my boat the first time out. 50 to 60 minutes for coffee...I don't have the patience....:) |
A 28' Eliminator Daytona with a pair of 540s.

My first "big" boat, ( it was to me at the time), was a 21' Mirage. Myself and my two kids, 13 and 14 at the time, went a little over 200 miles up to the north tip of the San Juan Islands, cruised around for 5 days and came back in a torrential downpour.
Had a Great time!!!:D |
in 1991,my (now) wife and i did the trent/severn waterway from Kingston Ontario to georgian bay from end to end and back in 12 days in my old power play 230.A little cramped but one of the best vacations of my life.

Great cruisers!
It's 32 miles north from my house to the dam, we do have 480 miles of shoreline if you go in all the nooks and crannies. A lot of friends live at or hang at the north end of the lake.
In the inboard ski boat it was pretty much an all day adventure if you wanted to go to that end of the lake- ok technically an hour long (each way) bouncy ride at cruise, slower with significant chop. With the Daytona everything is "close by", the ride is smoother, I can wait til the last minute to head for home etc. I suspect the mileage at 60 (3400 rpm) is not far off from my skiboat at 30 either. I could not imagine plodding along in a real cruiser, but I must admit, my wife likes to mooch a little AC in my buddies Sea Ray sundancer from time to time. |
This past 4th of July:
Put in at Sandusky, went to Put-In-Bay, then took the long way to Toledo, then back to Sandusky. Next Day, attempted to go to Cleveland but 4-6’ seas was too much for the 32’, stayed in Sandusky bay. Next day, went all the way to Metro Beach then back to Sandusky. Next day, went to Cleveland and back. All in all, we burnt over 350 gallons of gas in 4 days. It would have been more if day 2 wasn’t so bad |
Well, it is nice to see that not every power freak spends more time cleaning the bilge than running the boat!!!!
