I am an Electrical contractor by trade but have done my share of dirt work and I always come up short,it just dosn't go as far as you think with the compaction.I had dirt piled all over my lot for my house pad and my brother in law(dirt guy) said "where are you getting the rest of it"and I told him he was nuts I would have extra.I ended up finding out where to get more.Make sure it is enough as you will be commited.Good luck with it,all kids need a BIG toybox!!!

let me know when you get to the point you need any other material..sand, gravel, before the concrete gets poored... I'll be glad to get ya what you need with no BS on pricing.
Thank You. It will be a while. The land I'm filling was dug when The house was built many years ago. Its water now. I will have to let it sit for a long time. I wish it was filled before Isaac. My land was under water for 9 days. that would have helped settle it. When I get there I will give You a shout. Artie

So... about to put an internal sliding door from the dining room into the attached garage with a secondary heat pump installed so I can knock down the 25 x 40 toy house and build a 75 X 50 foot shop out back.

You have no city restrictions like that? I'm sure you've checked but just in case?
That sounds nice. I'm not in the city. So no real problems there. The slab will flood some times. but Im going with 16' walls. I want to build a room in the back in the loft that wan't flood. A friend of mine has a 50 by 100 with 14' walls. He said He wishes He would have went with 16' walls. He allso told Me to move the front wall in 20 or 25' an leave the roof for a overhang. That does sound like a plan. Just not sure if I wan't to lose the indoor space. It would be nice to work out side with a breeze some time. What do Y'all think? Artie

16' min on walls for loft is correct. what slope roof??? the more pitch the better. I have a 1 on 4 and that's too flat. my dad's 1 on 8 and much better on run off and it just looks good IMO. of course mine and dads are 40' wide and not 50".the over hang is the way to go too. hate opening my role ups and water being blown in or the sun beating down on me. One other thing Artie. not sure if you are doing insulation or not but the double bubble insulation had a defect when me and dad built...he used a different buiders...and the ultraviolet light deteriorates the coating on it so it starts falling of...little white peaces everywhere when the wind blows in. like dandruff. check to make sure they have solved that issue or go with something else.

P.S. figure 30-35% compaction on dirt...and i personally would use fill sand ( 10-15% compaction) as the base but but that cost more.

Last winter was very very mild. I think it averagesd in the 40's all winter. But usually were right around high teens all winter with a few feet of snow. So like I said up here when its packed up for winter its packed. Unless your lucky enough to have a huge barn which still can be cold unless you spend a lot of effort and time heating it. Which most people will heat but usually enough to take the bite off inside maybe like 50 degress.

We really have 12 weeks of boating between memorial and labor day, but if we get unlucky its not nice enough till mid June or late june. If we get lucky we get a a week or two on each end. But already its in the 50's cloudy and rainy.

I thought that was going to help the situation!!! Go figure.

The zoning board meeting is on November 6th. I had all the neighbors within a block of me sign a petition saying they were good with it. Most were delighted to do so.
