Well I read the rule book and I have a big problem. I may not be a racer but why are LSX blocks/heads not allowed? They are 2 valve per cylinder, and can bet set up for a 510 cubic inch set up. Also why not a Chrysler or Ford blocks? If you keep it to single cam and 2 valves per cylinder with 0.720 lift, 9.5 CR, 7000 rpm max then really any modern V8 should be allowed.

My guess is that if you keep it on GM designs, then the tooling for Inspectors to do there job is kept to a minimum.

Coming from a kid who hung out at DIRT sanctioned events and tracks, this was the reason people bought and used Dodge and Ford engines. The Tech inspectors simply didn't have the tooling to check them, and could cheat with no real way to be caught until the tooling was purchased, which hurt the sport as one person had a significant advantage.

Talking Offhsore Racing Theory

Welcome to the wonderful world of Offshore Powerboat Racing..where nothing really makes any sense..the rules and classes are constantly changing..the teams with the deepest pockets or loudest voices often dictate the rules(quite often both!!) Most spectators do not even know what boats are racing against each other(and probably dont care!) the cost of the equipment and racing in no way justifies the reward and certainly not the risk (no big million dollar paydays here..we dont even earn enough prize money to cover the cost of fuel!)
Whether we are allowed to run GM / Ford or Chrysler I dont think it makes much of a difference as long as we have good competitive racing and hopefully the new Superboat class will have this (at least until somebody gets pissed off about losing!) We all race for one reason only..We love the sport..because it certainly does not make any sense!!

I would like to keep this sport "current" and within the general rules. I will make more power and torque with a 510 LSX block design than I would a with a BBC and Brodix 2 heads at 9.5 CR and 7k limit. That would be updating the class, not cheating.

And the BBC and Brodix head design is very old.

nice to see you guys trying to do something to bring the cat class together.

but one big question ?

who is doing anything about safety ? i see from pete's pics that several boats are getting new power but NOT a one has done anything about canopy safety.

add the Welmax incident to the recent fatalities. i use the word "incident" since it's quite reasonably to think that when these boats crash there's a good chance the racers might die. these are no longer accidental deaths.

and still nothing...............

good luck but history is no longer your guys' side
