Cool

Unsure of the specifics to be honest. I know a better internal cage went into their new boat. As far as any specifics I do not have them. Just going on what I was told by Danny.

Tony, good seeing you in the pits. From a spectator standpoint the class looked great, good turn out of boats. I think it was some of the best racing of the week, you guys looked to be running pretty close with some good lead changes. The field looked a bit split on sunday with all the boats running in two groups. Maybe a split on prop selection that day? Still some good lead changes. Looked rough as all heck on Sunday and i watching every time you guys came back into view, we were on one of the Fury cats next to the harbor turn.

I havnt been this excited about a class in a while. Having run a boat set up as a supercat i love the 750 formula for a number of reasons. Puts the engine builder back in it and a team that has to keep it together to finish/win, just enough power to keep the speeds up and exciting but not so much to get ya in trouble or past a reasonable margin of safety with some of these boats. You put a 750 cat into a turn and its like throwing an anchor, they just dont have the torque to push you really hard through it. Makes your T guy and drive really work hard for gains when they are spec'd evenly. The engines are cheap to build (considering) and lets face it if you go over and get one wet you can, provided you didnt hurt anything, be back up and running in hours no prob (been there done that lol).

I only caught the Sunday race in KW but it looked pretty good. Hope all the racers are on the same page with the direction of the class.

but one big question ?

who is doing anything about safety ? i see from pete's pics that several boats are getting new power but NOT a one has done anything about canopy safety.

add the Welmax incident to the recent fatalities. i use the word "incident" since it's quite reasonably to think that when these boats crash there's a good chance the racers might die. these are no longer accidental deaths.

and still nothing...............

good luck but history is no longer your guys' side

The new MTI's are way ahead of the rest of the manufactures when it comes to boat safety design, and safety canopies.
They have addressed the problem, and it has paid off.
The Semperfi team rolled the new designed 48' MTI In turn 3 in Key West this year at speeds closing 160Mph.
There was no structural damage to the boat, or canopy. I am not sure if it would have been the same result in a different hull.
I think the rest of the manufactures should follow their lead sooner than later.

Is this going to be another "Mercury Only" class?

No, i believe they have just adopted a formula similar to the original 750 Supercat class engine. Anyone can build the engine as long as it meets the specs. Thats actually what i like about it.
