Thanks noli,
The steering column has self centring built in which is quite strong, the two controls apply load to adjustable friction clutches so you can choose the amount of self centring from rapid return to centre to assisted centring this is to allow adjustment for personal preference and to give some resistance in rough water. The steering wheel only moves through an arc of 350 degrees so just under one turn lock to lock which makes docking very easy, it is also hooked up into the GPS system so that as the speed rises it becomes less sensitive. I am also holding pressure in both sides of the steering cylinders which minimize torque steer, we can also program in the maximum steering angle the boat can safely take at any given speed. Peter |

wow, whats a system like that cost?is it available to purchase?thanks, looks like an awesome project.
We are not in a position to divulge pricing at the moment as we are having to develop some of the sensors for the hydraulic cylinders ourselves, this is to get the right performance and reliability, it will also make the system much more difficult to copy. We will have several versions available from a kit to convert an existing hydraulic steering system with external steering cylinders to fly-by-wire to a complete steering system comprising of steering cylinders, transducers, hoses, fittings, hydraulic control valve, twin ECU'S, electronic helm and all necessary hardware. Everything on the system is doubled up much like an aircraft so it is very safe, in the event of a total electrics failure i have a manual override system, provided the engine will still run you will still be able to get home. system will be CE marked for Europe to start with. We are also in discussion with insurance companies for public and product liability for America. Will keep you posted of progress. Peter |

Anxious to see this boat completed! One of the blue 29's was docked at our condo for the shootout this year, very nice boat! They truly are a work of art.

Hi Toffen,
Boat will be rigged with standard hand throttle but at some point this year i will be fitting my fly-by-wire steering system, at the same time i will install steering wheel mounted throttle paddles which can be operated by either hand as they are geared together and also tab and trim controls. Peter . Peter, would you be able to release for sale the following, before the fly-by-wire steering is released later this year: * momo wheel * hand throttle mounted on steering column * trim switches mounted on steering wheel . |

We will keep you updated with progress. Peter |

A few more progress shots.... We are really looking forward to the Miami show and some warmer weather... can't wait to see the boat completed.

Very cool thread for sure. Is this the first single engine Ilmor powered boat with this package. Looking forward to seeing some test results and #'s
