You're right. They are terrible and BOATPIX sucks.
Thanks, Tom. I'm very happy with the final work. Your people did a good job of brightening the third pic and removing the glare from above the gps. I'm also pleased with the way that the second pic was lightened and centered and the first pic was centered and the white dots removed from the water just as I requested. There is a huge difference between the originals on post #1 and the final proofs on post #65. I'm looking forward to receiving the actual 16x20 prints to frame and hang in my home. If the print quality is as you say it will be then I consider this to be a good value. I can burn $500 in gas in a day. These will last forever. Thanks again for being a pleasure to work with.

If you like them buy them, If you need them right now buy them, if you want some other pics to compare wait until a race next year in Michigan bring the boat out and there will be a bunch of people trying to earn your business.!

This is the first time in 20 years of boating that a chopper has taken pics of my boat and I happen to like them.

I've done business with boatpix before, I don't think they have any problems taking decent pictures. The retouching, assuming the ones you posted came from them, are not only bad but downright embarrassing.
The finals you posted look fine in small form but my fear is if they are doing what I think they are with the retouch method, when blown up they might look like crap. The problem with lightening (vs. darkening) is you have to gain clarity. It's difficult to do properly. If you wanted them darker it would have been fine (using the method I think they are).
I hope they turn out great because they certainly aren't cheap and they are nice to have!
(They have some other negative reviews because they do business in a not so great way at times by sending pictures and charging you if you don't send them back fast enough.)

I'm sorry to be a downer ThirdChildhood, but I am very familiar with BoatPix, and the quality is just not there. I hope you are happy in the end.
The Donzi sure looks great! Very nice boat!

I will find out guys but I have to say that I've read more positive comments about BoatPix than I have negative. My first proofs were not good but after working directly with the company owner they have done exactly what I asked for. The lighting wasn't the best but it did make for some interesting shading and the water looks great. As far as the quality of the prints, time will tell. I've ordered them. I will post here if I am satisfied or not. I have no reason to think that I will be disappointed. Stay tuned. This one should be coming to an end soon!

Let's forget about the cost and comparing prices. In the end, if I like the pics, I will buy them; Which, in fact, I have. I've also got $95,000 into a 22 foot boat. "But you could have so much more for less". I guess it's a Donzi thing. Why does a guy pay thousands of dollars for a Rolex when his cell phone has the exact time? Because he wants to and can afford it. I'm still waiting for shipping confirmation which should come any day.

That's my concern as well. I've seen some of the retouched final product that looked like a crayon was used to color in the retouching.
