I would think they have the FPT 560 hp diesel's in her .
he use's them in other race boat's and from what I have herd they can be turned up a bit in hp with just a map change . also I also think that cummins get's there block's from them . I was also told earlier that Cummins buy their blocks from FPT but thats wrong. Cummins make their own blocks but get the topends from FPT. Cylinderhead and all the hardware for the commonrail-injection. |

Did I hear right that he credited the event to Powerboat Magazine ? Oops !!! Someone should inform him it was BOATING MAGAZINE and that Powerboat Mag no longer exists.
They may have beaten the time for the new record, but I found it to be more impressive to see Chris & Tyson complete the run with only 2 people onboard of a Statement Center Console. It seems he brought a battleship to get the job done ! 9 Tons ??? Congrats to Fabio ! I wish that speedonthewater.com could have provided at least some coverage of this, but (alas, poor me) I was traveling for the Cigaretette Rendezvous in Destin and Jason Johnson was on assignment as well. Plus, at least as far as advance work went, Mr. Buzzi's run was not well-publicized in advance. But the news was reported, and that's what matters. As a journalist, I love these stories because they're meaningful. As someone who wants to see this industry rebound and thrive, I love them even more because they demonstrate the kind of passion and spirit that it will take to make that happen. Bravo, Mr. Buzzi. Well done. As for the Powerboat, reference, heck, we all get a little confused sometimes. |

he is kinda on the older side :) and still running these speed boat's so he doe's deserve some credit |
Mr. Buzzi choose to use something designed as a government tool, in contrast to a common citizen tool, something readily available and cost effective for the average citizen. That vessel was probably paid for by the Italian government, or will be soon, doubt the majority was out of Mr. Buzzi's pocket. Anyone record can be beat with money and desire, but what can be done with the everyday persons tools, is what counts to the majority.
As for American technology. If the American Government were to provide a vessel. I am confident that not only would the record be trounced, but Mr. Buzzi's vessel would be annihilated before it was even aware it was being watched. But then I guess some governments have to go for what they can win, doubt the NY to Bimini record is high on the American Governments list. I shall say no more, as I do not wish to offend the fragile ego of those that originate from within the lands of the romantic languages. |
what drives are on this boat?
|
cocky and arrogant, I like that, but that is one ugly looking freekin boat in my opinion. Congrats

Maybe enter this in the Bermuda Challenge, why screw around.
The timing of the trip is not that important ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGykz...020493E96DF06A |

he is kinda on the older side :) and still running these speed boat's so he doe's deserve some credit At age 61, in 2004, he is world champion in Key West, wins the Harmsworth Trophy, set two long distance records (Venice-Montecarlo and Tampa-Miami) and wins the 240 mile long Pavia-Venezia race at an average speed of 198 km/h(123 mph) with a hydroplane powered by a gas turbine. http://www.raidpaviavenezia.it/Storia.html In 2010, at the ripe age of 67, he won the Cowes-Torquay-race and the Harmsworth Trophy. It would be no surprise if he is among the competitors in next years Cowes - MonteCarlo-race... |
Fabio Buzzi has been driving race boats since before many of you were born. He cut his teeth in single seater outboard and inboards and holds numerous World Championships and records. His "Italian technology" has beaten our best on a number of occasions , and we have returned the favor. Bottom line is most of his detractors on here in an even contest with even equipment would lose to Fabio...Simply put he is a Real life long (decades and decades) boat racer and if you want to beat the best...you'll have to beat him. His comments about Italian technology reflect pride in his country...same thing that drives you to reply competitively.....unfortunately...some of you have made it personal...and he deserves better..as a matter of fact if you guys would listen..you might learn something from him.
By the way...if he really wanted to set a record of magnificent proportions...say 10 or 11 hours..he simply would have dusted off his 20 plus year old "Spirit of Argentina" or his near 30 year old "Gancia di Gancia". The fact is he used a military purpose built boat to advertize the capabilities of his designs.... a good marketing technique from a guy who has created some of the most advanced designs in Offshore history..... anyone know what hull made is of
|
Kevlar and GRP with a balsa core is what FB uses for most boats, so I would assume something similar.
|
I went to their factory a few years back ,and saw 2 inch balsacore laying around there ...yikes .. its a state of the art facility
