Fabio Buzzi attempting Bermuda Challenge now!

Fabio Buzzi departed NYC today at 3:56pm to try and set the new Bermuda Challenge world record.

As recent Bermuda Challenge competitors, Tyson Garvin and I would like to encourage everyone to cheer Fabio and his four person crew along and wish them a safe journey as they make their way east 780 miles to the finish line in St. Georges, Bermuda.

You can track Fabio's progress on Boating Magazine's website or on his company's page at the following link:

Twin O/B Sonic 09-27-2012 06:11 PM

Wow! Very cool. If anyone can do it, he can.

looks like Fabio is around one third of the way to Bermuda in 6 hours. He should make it there in around 18 hours if he keeps up this pace with no problems and beat Chris Fertig and me by a couple hours. Time to put Chris's boat on the trailer and head to New York?

Perlmudder 09-27-2012 09:36 PM

Which boat is he in?

innerrage 09-27-2012 09:42 PM

bad azz looking boat, but why are 2 special forces with him.

something to ponder.... we crossed the finish line in Bermuda at 8:09 am which was 21 hours 39 minuites.. If you look at this pic I took of the GPS at the half way point you can see the estimated time of arrival in the lower right corner at 4:09 am.
So had we not had some of the problems we could have made it in 17 hours 39 minuites. If Buzzi beats our record but not faster then 17 h 39 m maybe we will try it again?

this boat.... the boat is sold to a special forces team.

pstorti 09-27-2012 09:53 PM

Well Chris I hope he doesn't beat you, I like having a world record hull to ride around in!

Keytime 09-27-2012 10:52 PM

Wow. Had no idea he was making an attempt, especially so soon after the Statement. Do you know how long he has been planning this?

Dawg Gone 09-27-2012 11:29 PM

Cool challenge - boat looks like the right tool for the job.

Perhaps that was the only way for them to leave NY Harbor while they are having High - level meetings of the General Assembly of the United Nations ?

I am sure there was restricted air space while Obama was the "Eye candy" (his words not mine ) on ABC's show "The View" :angry-smiley-038:

SHARKEY-IMAGES 09-27-2012 11:41 PM

Chris and Tyson, no matter if they get their quicker or not, I have no doubt you probably still beat them in fuel economy ! ;)

AB From Windsor 09-28-2012 06:40 AM

Are there any maps of the course he is taking?

Fast Shafts 09-28-2012 07:31 AM

Chris and Tyson, I applaud you guys wishing Fabio well. It shows alot of "class" on your part! Maybe you'll have to "re-claim" the record??

Having competition is what makes it fun. If you went to a NASCAR race and there was one car running around it would not be much fun to watch.

cookee 09-28-2012 08:14 AM

Tracker isn't working for me?

rockstrmkr 09-28-2012 08:46 AM

looks like they're in Bermuda

bcschoe 09-28-2012 09:12 AM

I pulled this from thier tracking software in EXCEL:

Looks like a a strong new record. Just under 17 hours if this is correct.

They also noted that the “Someone was doing this two months ago and they did 30 knots with American technology, and we have done 40 with Italian technology.” F'n Ahole!

A competitive offshore racer? Bold? Say it ain't so. :D

I hope someone goes after it again soon.

akaboatman 09-28-2012 07:45 PM

My input. Great job. You never know what the seas will do. A production boat sold to us an this boat will not change a thing. I would get in a statment to get the recard back an hang on to My nuts. What a great job by everyone on this. I do wish statments recard would have held longer. There trip was a trip. Open boat an really what great Men to do this. Be safe an don't let a recard get anyone hurt. Love My boat buddys. Artie

SHARKEY-IMAGES 09-28-2012 08:08 PM

Did I hear right that he credited the event to Powerboat Magazine ? Oops !!! Someone should inform him it was BOATING MAGAZINE and that Powerboat Mag no longer exists.

They may have beaten the time for the new record, but I found it to be more impressive to see Chris & Tyson complete the run with only 2 people onboard of a Statement Center Console.

It seems he brought a battleship to get the job done ! 9 Tons ???

Congrats to Fabio !

Greatguy66 09-28-2012 08:18 PM

Italian vs. American technology, looks like a new line drawn in the playground sandbox.

+1 (big time) epic journey right there. Would love to make a trip like that in my lifetime.

congrats to Fabio none the less though, one of the great innovators of this sport/hobby.

jayboat 09-29-2012 08:47 AM

Real competition.

Congrats to the Italians! :ernaehrung004:
Impressive- I would like to know more about that boat.

Makes what Chris and Tyson did all the more incredible.
I'm sure the phone lines at Statement are hot today! :evilb:

mikebrls 09-29-2012 09:12 AM

I would think they have the FPT 560 hp diesel's in her .
he use's them in other race boat's and from what I have herd they can be turned up a bit in hp with just a map change .
also I also think that cummins get's there block's from them .
