If it is a Ford 03-07 with a 6.0, I would defiently change those injectors. I would also do the head gaskeys, because the extra load from the lower tire probably caused your caskets to fail as well. While your at it, change out the turn signal fluid and change all the tires to winter air, as summer is almost over.

First things first.....are you checking them the proper way? I have listed the below the proper way to check and adjust tire pressure on a boat trailer, failure to follow such instructions will cause god to kill a puppy.

1. Hoist the entire trailer and boat off the ground, no tire can be touching as this may throw off the readings.

2. Establish base line cold pressure, then heat each tire using a propane torch to road temp, the number you are looking for is 480 degrees (I know, I didn't believe it at first either) re check pressure.

3. If the pressure "balance" is off more that 1 percent across all tires the AIR is no good and must be changed immediately. Lug nut torque can effect air pressure so be sure to loosen and re-torque them as well.

4. Lastly is the road simulation test, you will need 7 people to perform this accurately. Using 6 air pressure gauges monitor the tire pressure at the same time that the entire trailer and boat are dropped from the hoist. Compare max readings across the tires, if there is any variation at all you will need new tires and have to start this entire process over. I use the nascar spec analog gauge (no digital!) these gauges can be purchased online for about $629.99 each

I know it is winter, but this is basic stuff you should know if you are going to own a boat. Failure to do this make you a danger to not only the public, but the sport as well. Keep the pressure where it should be at all times!!

are you sure about #3,my nascar spec guage manual sais 1 pound, not 1 percent.

all good ideas, should i put winter air in the trailer tires,it wont get moved till summer, but im afrain to store it with summer air!

Best reply! As I sit here in the camper with my 5 children finishing up breakfast, I read this thread to everybody. The comment was " so, this is what happens when winter comes and boaters do not have a 2nd hobby or an older boat that needs work."

Come to think of it, I should check my camper tires. Not sure how a 32' camper will take the drop to check tire pressure spike......

I am finding it hard to tell if people are being serious about this or not. A 1 pound difference on a trailer can cause all the tires to go bad?

RIPJIVE9311 10-23-2012 10:19 AM

I checked my tires and also had variations in preasure,I am showing this thread to my wife so she can see the potential damage and then calling Whipple and supercharging my motors this winter to avoid all the damage this spring at Desert Storm.

All you have to do is take out the summer air & replace it with winter air.

Then you'll be good to go.

Dice valve stem caps not only look cool, but also help keep the water out of your tires when launching. Just a trick of the trade.
They are lucky too.

Good thread. Very informative.

Yes we are serious, I don't think this is anything to joke about! Also please follow my air pressure checking procedure to a T!
