40 Skater challenges 41 Apache in the rough!
SubscribeHey Thumper Jim, you got any pics of that old Black 38 Scarab??? I only saw that thing after it caught fire and was sitting in the old crowleys boat yard downtown. I bet that boat was bad a$$ when you had it. It had some big power in it too didnt it???
[QUOTE=sommerfliesby;3815218]Well..the five other people in my boat plus the 5 or 6 in Laszlo's boat could probably refute what it "looks like" to you and give you an accurate description....NOBODY would have been going 120 in that water. The GoPro really smoothed it out as far as perspective.
I merely offer this as a reality-based arguement about how difficult this proposed "race" might prove to the average, non-racing boater.[/QUO
Here is another clip of that day we definitely knocked the tops off some that day.

Stood beside a guy at Key West for the races Sunday when I was saying I heard 5' - 7's the day before and 25mph+ winds when he replied that he was out in it in his 40' Skater
I wanted to ask him more but was too far away. His reaction sounded like it was as not fun though.
I really did want to hear his honest opinion. IMO, 40' of anything ain't big enough for that crap!
Just sayin....

We have lots of pics and had a lot of fun with that boat when it burnt I was like o sh1t cause I built the power and was relieved when it started in the cabin, rumors Maybe the brand new stereo or smoking???
My boy cried when he saw the pictures and for years he wanted to fix it back up!
Yea it had some high compression Merlin Engines that was the boat we "RACED Not professional I tell ya" but none the less raced Tim Edwards a time or two across the pond.
I like street/water grudge racing for fun!!!
Way less B/S than running with a pack that changes the rules to suit their needs and then whines when someone outside the circle starts winning.
But that is another total thread topic in itself.
THIS IS NOT A RACE

I'd like to get my buddy out with his old dinosaur. Slow as a snail, but this thing is unbelievable in big water. Ive never been in a 41 apache in big water, nor a skater. I have been on a 38 Flatdeck cig, and while that too is a awesome ride, this old USA racing cat would out run it in the big stuff imo.
A few years back, I had my old 402 Formula. 24* hull, heavy as they came, true 40ft Vee. My buddy and I had planned to run up to chicago from hammond for the day. We rolled out of the cal sag, and got outside the break wall. Holy mother of god I thought, here we go!! I did everything I could to keep from busting my Formula up into small pieces that day, and stay on plane. Ran about 35-40mph max, as that was about all i could do. My buddy next to me in the big old cat, was doing well. Finally, after about 10 miles of this, he had enough waiting around. He nailed it and let that boat do its thing, and man did it do it. It crushed about everything in its path, and watched him stand that boat on its tail a few times. Finally we arrived to chicago. I spent about 30 minutes in my cabin assessing, fixing and reattaching the damage. He just sat there drinking beer on his boat with a smile.

Love it when a newbie shot out into open water from the Cal Sag opening to the lake and stood it on end LOL!
