How big are these seas?

I hear people talk about running in 2-3 footers, 5-6 footers and bigger. I have a hard time telling just how high the waves are and was wondering what you guys think the size of these seas are. I know it may tough to tell from the camera view, but what do think anyway.

Running 40-45mph in the Pacific Ocean on the way to Catalina Island.

3 footers with one 5 footed that got them wet..

Smitty 11-04-2012 07:54 AM

If he had trimmed up more, he would most likely not gotten sprayed. You can tell the bow is steering from lack of trim.

Looks like he had a Go-Pro on his head.

mikebrls 11-04-2012 07:57 AM

2 footer's +

Allicat38 11-04-2012 08:00 AM

I see no seas there . A couple boat wakes and maybe 1 ft sea

mike tkach 11-04-2012 08:03 AM

looks like 1 to 2 footers to me.

Crude Intentions 11-04-2012 08:11 AM

AB From Windsor 11-04-2012 08:26 AM

POWERPLAY J 11-04-2012 08:50 AM

Fenderjack 11-04-2012 09:12 AM

Waves!!! On the Chesapeake Bay we call them little things rollers, pretty common around here when we have a 15mph wind.JOHN SR

Tony Montana 11-04-2012 09:17 AM

24 degree. It's a 99 Baja Outlaw. 150 Gal of fuel (full)

cp5899 11-04-2012 10:59 AM

I was thinking 1-2 with a occasional bigger. I've been in 5+ ft waves in the gulf on my offshore boat and its not a fun ride dropping down in to big trenches. That's with a heavy slow offshore boat I couldn't imagine true 5+ footers at 45 mph unless I was in a 40+ long boat that could span 3 wave tops. Never been in a 40+ ft boat so maybe I'm off on bigger boat being fun in true 5+ ft waves?

VtSteve 11-04-2012 11:08 AM

I would have said 1' to 2', probably seemed larger due to the bad angle of attack. It looked like the boat was taking a bit of a pounding at that angle.

242LS 11-04-2012 11:17 AM

Looks like 1'-2'.

NOAA reports as "Significant Wave Height" - individual waves can be much bigger:

"SEAS ARE REPORTED AS SIGNIFICANT WAVE HEIGHT...WHICH IS THE
AVERAGE OF THE HIGHEST THIRD OF THE WAVES. INDIVIDUAL WAVE
HEIGHTS MAY BE MORE THAN TWICE THE SIGNIFICANT WAVE HEIGHT."

mcprodesign 11-04-2012 11:57 AM

2 foot windswell w some boat wakes mixed in. Lots of big ships out there.

tim mccray 11-04-2012 01:36 PM

Those are small, 1 to 2 feet. That's flat for out here. Looks like a 30 or 32 foot boat and not going very fast, makes the water look a little bigger than it is.

cfischer 11-04-2012 02:08 PM

Perfect for a 20' Cig or 22' Classic!!!!

ICDEDPPL 11-05-2012 08:33 AM

To some people thats 6-8' so they can come on the interwebs and say they were in huge water and their boat is so awesome that they didn`t even spill their beer in 6-8'`s

This was the water on my sea trial Saturday during the Lauderdale show provided by Sandy.

onesickpantera 11-05-2012 09:50 AM

It's very difficult to judge wave height on videos. Most of the time the waves look smaller on video than what they are. If this was JUST a video of the water(with no boat), I bet most people would guess these were 2-3 footers.

Harvey 11-05-2012 10:52 AM

1 ft to 2 footers

Awesome!!

tjred 11-05-2012 01:08 PM

The real fun starts on the way back around 3pm.

BBCLiberator 11-05-2012 01:38 PM

Those look 2-3 to me, camera's always make waves look smaller.

And it looks like that thing is bow steering, trim that thing up a bit so it won't beat you up so bad, and you'll stay dry.

BrettM 11-05-2012 02:03 PM

Looks like LOTO on a Tuesday!

Maybe 2's. Boat to wet, trim it out and drop the tabs a point.

Seems like friday was 3' plus? Anyone of you guys there who could comment? It was the first time i ever aired out my 31'.

I didn't think Cumberland water was that bad. We came out of Harmon Cove on Saturday and run hard back to State Dock side by side with the Saddle Up boat. it was a good ride but not unmanageable.
I would guess the water was 2's with larger cruiser wakes that keeps it fun!

You got that all wrong it was 99mph :daz:

88.. B itch please, you think I`m scared.. good one. I just know the truth about the lake and you aint going that fast in those waves and not getting tossed around unless youre in a barge. Common dude get real , its called physics. Tell those stories to your coworkers who don`t know any better. Whats next, your boyfriend was painting his nails at 120mph in 8' seas? pfffft!
