Team USA Miss Geico

me understand now.
marc would have that been that hard to explain?
so the boat geico has isn't one of the "actual" maritimo's built by maritimo when they tried to run that 790hp motor in C1. but the maritimo that ran in supercat 700 was ??????????
you guys and your boat lengths. 50 mystic is really 43, 48 mti is 42?, 50 maritimo is really a victory......i won't even begin to try to firgure out what skater is doing.
would it be that hard to just classify boats by running surface!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for boat length vs running surface, you forgot Fountain

Are you saying there will never (or in the foreseeable future at least) be another turbine powered miss geico? Did the fire sour your tastes for turbines that much?
I've seen a fair few gas motors burn to the water line as well (seen one just last weekend at the southern 80 ski race here in Australia). Or is there other issues like money, reliability (I thought the turbines were pretty good from what I heard), parts availability, dealer backing etc. that have played a part in the decision?

Dave sometimes snookered works...trust me we knew what the capabilities of the boats were..since we couldnt play overseas with them , it was nice to bring them here....Do you think for one second Billy or myself fear competition? Given the same equipment, I think there are a few over here that can compete on the same level.....with that being said I know QATAR wants to start something good...and you will see it very soon....Its truly racing when things are equal...

You have to love turbines for all the reasons mentioned above , the simple fact is no one would come and race us..two years. We did everything we could persuade the turbines to come out ..nothing Once we made the switchover to piston...you guessed it Turbines come out to race. There will not be a Miss Geico turbine boat in the foreseeable future.
We have a new program now that we are VERY excited about.
Tony, I'm very surprised that you guys (509) sent Maritimo (41 maritimo hull) packing. They were a great addition to your class and VERY srong racers that have a lot of rough water exp. Am I correct that they lost the first two races in KW only to win on the Rough day Sun. ? Some boats are better in different conditions it certainly wasn't that much faster than the rest of the fleet. Seem's like wasted opportunity (my opinion only).
I heard Tom's old Reliable MTI coming out to play again with a new crew. should make things interesting. Good luck with the class let's hope you Billy can find a happy medium and build on the momentum.

I understand the comment but there have been instances when/where the rules were so specific it left no room for innovation - speaking of the "Merc Drives only". A positive to this has been the 525 package that still left room for hull/ set up for the make or break scenario.
But yes, it is hard to feesably compare one boat with ulimited budget, one running cranked up prototype powerplants, another w relatively stock 1075s (and you could throw a turbine in for good measure) and call it an equal playing field....... but the boats did run well together from the vid footage.
There always has to be a boat that places 1,2 and 3 if you want to call it a race! It's good to see the big players still out running and putting on a great show, just the same!
Congrat's on securing the first 1650's - great start to the new season!

What you guys must understand is that you can have all the power you want in unlimited class but sea conditions will dictate how much you can use. Being able to control a boat at these speeds navagate high speed turns consistently is the challenge. See video below, we can keep up in the bump..flat water he's gone. Can you hnestly say we are not racing??? really ? because we were using everything we had in the boat and skill to keep up. (10 min mark) We lost the race. period.. no complaining. They brought a gun..we brought a knife.
Everyone talks about equal ...there is NEVER equal in racing.. Guys that test and teams that have better equip will dominate the majority of the time.
It's easy to run one's mouth sitting behind a computer quite another to actually push a boat to its limits and compete.
