Speakers
What are you guys useing for speakers
Looking to run 4 speakers 2 subs I will also run two amps also |
I have had good luck with the memphis marine 6.5's and 8" I have (8) 8" and (8) 6.5's powered by 2 Jl audio amps
|
JL all the way. Amps and speakers
|
I am putting Wet Sound in my boat, speakers subs and amps. Hard to beat the sound that comes from there stuff.
|
Just received my new jl audio 8.8 mid/highs (4) and (2) jl audio 10" infinite baffle subs. Had same setup in my Sunsation with 7.7's and it was slapping! Loudest and best sounding 4 speakers i have ever heard. The 8.8's will be that much better
|
JL with out a question!
|
Go listen to Wetsound and JL then make your choice, I did.
|
wetsounds are ugly JL rules, and the 8.8's blow away the 7.7's
|
JL's are amazing. Amps and speakers
|
addictive audio . elite series components and excruci8 sub ..... that sub will hit harder and lower than most companies 12s and 15s . also their 5ch amp
|
riverboater, I sent you a PM. I'm a Wet Sounds dealer in Western KY.

may want to consider Polk Audio as well...
3 Attachment(s)
I just finished an install last weekend. This is the first time I have used Polk Audio components and have to say I'm very impressed. This is a very basic two speaker system in a new to me fish-&-ski. After quite a bit of research and reading good reviews I got Polk MM651UM 6.5" coaxials speakers and a PA D2000.2 amp. Upgraded the headunit as well to a Clarion CMD-7.
All I can say is WOW! The amount of volume and sound quality of this system blows me away. Now it doesn't hit the lows like it would with a sub, but runs surprisingly low with no distortion at insane volumes. The stereo imaging and overall fullness of the music with this two speaker system is crazy. Totally exceeded my expectations. Based on this experience I recommend taking a look at Polk. |
Thinking of changing the JL 6.5 to the new 8.8.

Looking to run 4 speakers 2 subs I will also run two amps also JL is at or near the top of sound quality, and long term durability. A properly tuned JL system is studio quality. However, I have designed and installed some of the loudest clearest sound systems on our lake for less than $1000 for everything. Using A sony head unit, sound stream 5 channel amp, twin kicker comp cr subs, fostgate prime 6.5", cap and 2 gauge wiring kit. With proper speaker placement it will be louder than you ever need, with out distortion. I wouldn't tell the guy that 2500 to spend to move down to the above items I mentioned, I also wouldn't tell a guy that only had $1000 to start with only 2 jl's and a small amp because he couldn't afford what he really wants. |

I purchased the DB6501 Component 6.5s for my boat last year. The quality is great for the price, no question. And the sound quality is great as well. However, these speakers have some serious directional issues, and do not work well for low mounted applications. I am actually looking to move to a different speaker because the line of sight for sound is only about 10 degrees. Too bad too, I really like the looks of them.

Wet Sound Sinister Amp, SD6 6 channel amplifier does an amazing 185 watts x 6 at 4 ohms, 290x6 at 2 ohms and Bridged the amplifier does 585x3 at 4 ohms, you would only need this one amp.
|
Nice system. Also have the Polk UM's. Great speakers for the price.
|
Just finished up installing my JL 6.5's, theyre bada$$!
I'm looking for place to put a couple more... |
JL audio all the way!!!! just finished installing m10 sub 2 7.7's and 2 6.5's along with JL audio 900/5 amp. Sounds are crystal clear and loud!!! would highly recommend!!!!!
|
I wish I had the room to out some of the larger JL's in, but I don't have that much flat real estate.
|
86242ls, I'm thinking of using JL as well, with exception to using 4 8.8s. What kind of head unit are you using? Does this set up require an additional battery? If not, does it drain your primary batteries quickly?
|
Big fan of the Polk MMUM's . Great sound for the money .

The Mobil Monitor series must be different or it is the angle of the kick panel pods in this Ranger. Actually what surprised me about these speakers was how high and wide the sound stage is considering their low placement. They are not directional at all in my application.
Not fair for me to compare the db series, please ignore my post |
I have used polk MM series on my SeaRay and 4 6.5" with two Kicker subs are fantastic. I did use a JL amps but the MM Polk sounds as good as anything until I listened to Focal... I just ordered a set of them for my MTI and its going to rock!!
For the money the Polk but if you don't mind dropping some coin the FOCAL is hands down the best audio equipment out there. |

I was going to start another thread but I see what happens here...
I have 4 6x9 JBL's and Im in the process of rebuilding my bench structure out of starboard... so I would hate to cut out the 6x9 holes for these speakers that seem decent but then im stuck again with the 6x9's. Should I just cut my losses now and go to a 6.5 speaker? Buddy of mine said that there's not much of a market for the 6x9's anymore... Not sure i can afford the 6.5 JL speakers right now... |

Put the 6.5" up in the sides of the boat. Put a couple of 10" subs in the bench with boxes, and have sound that is 10 times better. Don't get all caught up in JL either. Lot's of brands of 6.5" that can be had for less than $100 a set that sound every bit as good if not better than JL. 10" subs can be had for less than $100 each that will far out perform the JL free airs. Get a decent amp for around $500 and you will have a slammin system for less than $1000 if you can install it yourself. |
