Sad to hear. Hope we all are a little bit safer, and thankful, after hearing about this.
99.99% do not feel there is anyone to blame or sue. Don't agree or believe in that. I personally like Velocity. Would consider owning one. I have driven both a 26/28 and a 41, both 85mph boats. I also have heard of a Velocity thoroughbred that came apart (no one was hurt) and the factory warranty it. A well respected member of OSO, T2x, posted something along the lines of liking Velocity Boats but would have them lay the boat up heavier. You can find the exact quote somewhere in this thread http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...m-history.html Obviously any boat that crashes can come apart. But we all can agree that in this case the boat seems to be in more pieces then normal. We can also all agree that Velocity's are REALLY fast, ESPECIALLY for not having any steps. Yes a lot of the speed comes from the pad, but it also comes from a light layup. Does that mean the boat is less safe, or more apt to break apart, who knows. But a crash like this makes me want to learn and research about my future hull even more. Again, so sad to hear about story's like these. Hope there are less and less of them of them in the future. |
I and several of my boating friends run Formulas. We would not expect such a disintegration from one of them...but I don't think any of us are going to go out and test one to such a extreme degree to find out. The human body can only withstand so much blunt force trauma before it fails...regardless of weather the vehicle housing it fails or not.
This was an extreme circumstance that took design and materials beyond limits....hopefully it doesn't repeat it's self. |
so sorry four all involved, prayers sent
