What's the story?

I heard all are Ok, bad weekend thankfully no injuries from what I can tell aside being tossed in the drink. Figured it deserves its own thread as the dcb got it's own.

endeavor1 04-27-2013 07:17 PM

Damn shame, glad the people are ok. What boat is this? Tiger or RR?

WildThing47 04-27-2013 07:18 PM

Looks like a tiger? At least it's fresh water and not salt, boat can dry out.

POWERPLAY J 04-27-2013 07:22 PM

Shame. Rollin rollin rollin...

WildThing47 04-27-2013 07:33 PM

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/226557...rash_in_rocks/

Seems they have a bit of issues with turning...

"they see em' rollin, they hatin...."

**NOTE** THIS IS NOT THE BOAT THAT ROLLED AT DESERT STORM

PokerRun388 04-27-2013 07:41 PM

Horrible to see that pic. Glad everyone is fine.

mike tkach 04-27-2013 07:50 PM

SickAndTwisted 04-27-2013 07:54 PM

Good thing they are ok. Hope he read the warning label before turning.

That doesnt look much like a desert, the description says "Expensive motorboat crash in rocks in Bulgaria"

Some people aren't that bright and don't pay attention, they'll watch without reading.....that should avoid any confusion...

Donzi ZX 04-27-2013 08:01 PM

Are we sure it's recent? I saw it posted over on riverdaves after someone said DCB stood for Dave's Custom Buoys.

Yeah, I know people get uptight about crashes and start to speculate....

Unfortunately, you are right.

DrGaryDC 04-27-2013 08:02 PM

Heard of a handful of the stepped cigarettes rolling. Not uncommon. Poor design??

Not a bad hull design, just bad drivers.

That is why the Tres Martin course is so important to learn the correct way to drive.

EXAMPLE: Take an average 16 year old kid with learners permit, put him in a Corvette/Ferrari,etc, place on race course and see how long it takes to mess up.

PERFORMANCE vs inexperience, bad things can happen.

Corrected it a little cause I know a few 16 yrs old open wheel racers that would drive the pants off anyone here.

Yep...

WildThing47 04-28-2013 11:04 AM

Yea, and thanks them the rest of us have insurance rates go through the roof...

Not speaking specifically to this accident because then again who knows what actually happened. Since for some weird reason no one seems to have any info on this particular incident but the DCB thread is how many pages long? Cig's have always been a handful to turn at speed, at least the stepped versions...imho...

Deltarat 04-28-2013 11:53 AM

Not starting any speculations or rumors but this is what I grabbed off of another site.

"O.K,This is the story one of there group told me.The dad let his son take out the 42' Top Gun.The dad was on the beach watching and the kid lost his hat and made a sharp left turn. The rest is history.Someone is getting a ass kicking tonight. All kidding aside,No one was hurt, that is all that matters!!!"

Wildthing I don't think it fair to single out the Cigarette brand of boats as being difficult to turn at speed , least we forget what happened at the Smoke on the water poker run a number of years ago. I don't beleive that was a Cigarette that rolled that day . I remember reading some where by one of the more experienced boat racers ( like JT or Teague not sure) that they felt step boats in general should be reserved for the race community and not the pleasure boater. I think who ever said that may have been on to something.
Boater error( inexperience) is more likely the cause of most V boat roll overs that hull design. Most peforamnce pleasure boaters probably don't have enough seat time to push a step bottom hull to its limit. That why dispite the fact I have been boating since I was 14 I prefer a straight bottom hull , there is just more margin for error in my humble opinion.
RG.

That was inexperience as well. Agreed, well put.

If that is the case of what happened, over a hat? He's lucky he didn't kill everyone in the boat. That's ridiculous, not to mention, that is careless and negligent for the father to even do that. The kid is an idiot, a sharp turn for a *ucking hat? That just irritates me to no end.

Your right its not just Cigs, was at a Poker Run last sept. and it was a Outer limits, got the pics to prove it, everybody was tossed out of the boat can't remember if it was a sharp turn or wake, driver wasn't were lanards boat was still running, I think the boat was coming back around to run everyone over and another boat rammed it to stop it...I believe 98% of they accidents are driver error...

IDRPSTF 04-28-2013 02:37 PM

Can someone please please post a picture of the hat ASAP

I thought performance boat and flat bottom was a mutually exclusive statement? :helmet:

I found the hat
http://magliery.com/Graphics/Current/tilley.jpg

WildThing47 04-28-2013 06:03 PM

it had to be flat brimmed...

Australia 04-28-2013 06:15 PM

our 08 Donzi 38ZR turns beautifully, but I was given some clear instructions from Craig Barrie when we bought it. never try and turn it sharply at high speed and when ever you turn it always have plenty of trim on to keep the backside buried in the water.

We respect it and it behaves nicely.

What kind of thing would cause a roll over. Seeing that boat flip the driver out and then cruise onto the rocks is a nightmare. I can't believe the people filming it laughed.

POWERPLAY J 04-28-2013 06:21 PM

Everybody should come to an agreement. T/S Cigarettes are very dangerous. Thus flooding the market and pushing prices down enough that I can finally buy a Gladiator...

I guess I don't understand the correction.

He was talking about the average 16 year old, and then you interject with some experienced drivers turning the same direction on a closed race course.

How is that relevant to a lake?

For that matter, so are twin step Fountains and anyone with a staggered 38 Lightning should probably forfeit the boat to me. :D
