That's because you're so lucky Gino.

Your 7.3 is not going to like towing that much weight. It will do it, it just won't be fun. To tow that much, I would be looking at more motor and trans upgrades namely Banks. My dad has a full Banks 7.3 and I have a DP tuned 7.3 with exhaust, night and day difference. His truck will runs circles around mine towing the same boat (7000lbs). Also need boost, EGT, and trans temp gauges when towing.

If the brakes on the trailer are set up right, it will stop fine. My dads trailer has surge brakes and it stops 2xs as fast with the trailer. Surge brakes are fine if they're set up right.

I've got an F250 with the 7.3 PSD. We have no trouble towing a 38 Donzi ZR. We did blow the trans up very quickly so we upgraded the trans with a heavy duty kit (valve bodies etc) and put a heavy duty torque converter in. The truck has about 180,000 miles on it. The motor pulls the Donzi up very steep roads here without an issue. The more horsepower you make at the engine, the more stress on the transmission, so we are purposely leaving ours standard. Elec brakes on the trailer work a treat.

Do you guys ever see 3 and 4 car carriers (wedge trailer) behind a 3500? I see it all the time DOT numbers on them and all, so 3 1500 pickups at 4800+ pounds on a large steel trailer is ok but a 10,000 lb skater is too big and heavy ?I understand bigger and safer is better but real is real

Impossible! Think about how they work. Surge brake trailers work by PUSHING against the tow vehicle. You can't stop faster by pushing it. You stop faster by PULLING it backwards, as you could with electric or EOH brakes. If your surge brake trailer is pulling on the hitch, the brakes aren't engaging. 101

IMO if you were really into trying to make it work, I would at least do EOH on the trailer. Ideally, buy something bigger.

Real is real? Really..

DOT: Gonna love an overweight purty lil race boat going down the road.. Great entertainment in an otherwise boring job...

Insurance: So, ya screw up, have to slap the brakes on and swerve, take out granny in her Prius. Hmm, overweight load behind the truck, we'll let you know if you're covered..

As said before, hell yes it is doable. Been there, done that. But is it smart? Not so much...

Thats incorrect. Just because the trailer is pushing on the truck doesnt mean the rate of decelleration cant be faster. Im not saying that he is correct but your point makes it sould like your defying the laws of physics. So all im saying is you cant say he is wrong.

Surge brakes are useless on larger boats. I can not believe anyone even thinks they are OK. I would not even think about pulling that Skater with that truck. You have been given some good advise on some posts and some poor advise. Pick wisely.
