I am glad you posted that, I would have assumed performance would have improved, I learned something new today. It has been on my mind to start looking for an 21' Shadow or Challenger, get back to having some fun driving the boat, when the driver truly matters, as compared to push the throttles - trim up and go fast that the 34' Phantom that I had recently (the Phantom did nothing squirrely)

If I start looking what years, in your opinion were the absolute best years that you made the hulls ? Next question, 2.5 Mercury, 300 xs, or the 350, what would work best for the 21' weight, horsepower, ect, I want to accelerate hard, top end is important but I want the race over after one or two miles when I am out cruising the ICW in NJ or the Delaware River.

I always look forward your knowledge and know how.

2.5l motor is where it's at. I can tell ya that! That is optimal for balance and weight.

dnelson964 03-23-2015 12:33 PM

After running a 3L I would not go back to a smaller motor for all around performance. JMP

Who owned the one at the salvage auction on long island? Had a 300 merc that's apart.

Do you guys remember building this Shadow. It was built in 1984 but is titled as a 85. I got it from Chris M who has owned it since 1987. I am working on getting it back to mint, although it is already in really good shape as it has always been stored inside and still is. It has a lot of custom work to the transom to handle the twin 260's. Also had twin 2.4's and started life as a single but Chris and Jimmy K did a ton of work on the boat. Cool to see the origin of this wonderful boat. It has a nice garage to live in as well and always will.

I really love the boat. Twin 260 ROS power.

That boat is sweet! Have you run it? What speeds can it handle?

Baja170 03-09-2016 09:47 AM

Hope to run it for the first time Friday. It is well over 90. Yust put two new tires on the trailer today as well as a new one on the spare. Going to Charlotte tomorrow for some expert help with it and a hull ding from the drive down fixed. We will see if I can handle it or not soon. :) If it is not a challenge, why have it?

Baja170 03-14-2016 05:28 AM

It ran the first time in 3 or 4 years yesterday. Hits 80 at the drop of a hat. Less than half throttle 4800-5K RPM with 28 Merc cleavers on it. I have a set of 30's as well. The 260's are singing. Love the boat.

Just that the boat is an 83 model and built with a Hammond number. Given that it's a 21' you have located a potentially good boat. Not much more to tell without pictures

Gotsand30 08-09-2016 11:04 AM

Oh ok.. Thanks, I hope I didn't come off a little rude. Like I said I don't know much about boats and well for 500 I thought it was worth it.. Not sure how to add photos

you cant directly, but you can host them on one of the picture hosting sites, then provide a link in your post

Gotsand30 08-10-2016 01:04 PM

I notice a lot of these Hammond boats are located on the east coast.. Haven't seem many here in Arizona. Can't wait to get started on mine..

Gotsand30 08-11-2016 09:09 PM

How can I tell the originality of the boat? I'm pretty sure its been repainted.. And I'm not sure about the motor.. 5.4 I think that's a 327. Pulled most of the interior out today.

1984 Team Shadow- Amazing Boat

Hi all.... need a little advise. Just bought a restored 21' Team Shadow from one of the original Team Shadow company owners in Lake Hopatcong. Boat has a 200 Merc and ran 61.4mph last weekend. The merc was rebuilt 10 hours ago and runs great but is a 1994. I am considering upgrading to a 200-250 optimax or Etec..... Thoughts? Also, boat currently does not have a jack plate and might consider that too..... any thoughts?..... How transom is designed it seems like it has a built in jack plate..... I do not want to mess up the great ride this boat has..... would love top speed 75 and cruise 50-60mph.

Let me say this 21' Team Shadow is an amazing boat.... the ride is stunning! Been boat 46 years from 31 superboat w/ twin 2.5 racing to a 38' Regal bagel barge..... After a few hours on water I can attest to how great this hull is...... Wow!

Any advise is appreciated.
Thks

Hope to hear from you.

It needed some tlc I have gone threw the engine which was replaced and sounds great now The outdrive is so clean inside and out. Stringers were tested and are good. Just the floor is weak . The boats name was Aquaholic at one point. I named it Recovery. Lol anybody know anything on this beautiful boat ????

Will definitly be one of the best sources for a motor and a lot of people on there running this boat or versions of it...

there is a 100 page thread on the challenger on screamandfly

My father bought it from original owner and sold it after 2 summers. That was taken in 1997 est.
