Outerlimits Breaks LOTO Shootout Vee Bottom Record
This past weekend at the Lake of The Ozarks Shootout Outerlimits broke the current Vee Bottom record of 139mph at the event The record was previously held by "Doc" Janssen in his Saratoga Stampede Fountain and Bill Betz in his SV43 Outerlimits. On Saturday Dave Scotto's SL52R powered by Mercury 1650's set the bar with a 149mph pass. Then on Sunday the Outerlimits SV43 race boat powered by Mercury Racing 1350's, with Mike Fiore on throttles and Joe Sgro on the wheel made a pass of 152mph. Shortly after Scottos 52 made one more pass of 150mph. Congrats to Mike, Joe, and Dave on a very successful LOTO Shootout 2013 from all of us at Outerlimits Powerboats. Here is a link to Dave's story by Matt Trulio, and Matts re-cap of the weekend.

Congrats to them all. Thats hauling the mail!
|
Congrats to the OL crew. Fiore has built some fine boats and has raised the bar!
|
Congrats! The coolest thing about all of this is that the 52 was pulling into Tan Tar A at 10pm with a boat load of people, quietly I might add.
Who would have ever believed that you could be out cruising around at night with 1650's! |
OL continues to set the record and std for vees... nice work guys!
|
What better way to back up the 150 claim. High "testing" numbers on a new boat can be somewhat subjective, set in perfect conditions, long run ups and tall props etc. Doing it again in a mile blows away any concept of smoke and mirrors. Wonder what one would do with triple 1350's??
|
Thats hauling some serious ass. Congrats.

For the record, just in case it's unclear, both the open SL 52 and the SV 43 broke the record. Very cool stuff.
|
Congrats to Mike and Outerlimits Powerboats.. Looking forward to seeing them in Key West again!!
|
Congrat's to OL, crew and Teams on the new speed records at Lotto.
|
What about Dustin Whipples boat? Saw him and Mike out at Big Cat the weekend before!
|
When can we expect OL to set the kilo record now?

http://www.offshoreonly.com/articles...his-dream-boat http://speedonthewater.com/in-the-ne...-top-gun-title When we ran the Saratoga Stampede ( 42'Fountain race boat w merc 1200"s) 139mph, was the best we could achieve in 5,280 feet, OL raised the bar to new levels in both a pleasure and race boat. |

This was an amazing performance for all the Outerlimits at the 2013 LOTO Shootout.... Remember these boats achieved these speeds in 1 mile, and only with a 30-40mph start.

Dustin's boat did not make it. It is still being finished.
the race 43 had very little to no testing, the motors were dropped in that week and it was late to show up to the shootout. With some tweaking and a better run it would be faster. With a proper set up and clean run the boat will go faster. The good news is that even with these issues the SV43 killed the previous V bottom record :-) The SL52 is a complete boat with all the stuff. Its crazy to sit in that boat knowing it goes 150mph. Just amazing. MP |
Outerlimits has the best bottoms in the industry right now but I know a bunch of Cig owners that do not care for the styling of the OL, and like the old school south florida Cig look. If OL took a 38TG, 42X, or 46RR deck, splashed it, and put the Cig deck on one of their OL bottoms, I think they would pull some of the Cig market their way.........

Also, keep in mind, when Bob Russel did his 138mph at shooters in 2003, or when stampede did it's 139mph or Bill Bet'z 139mph in his 43sv, the radar guns always read low (these 3 runs would have been 140+ on the new guns). The run that we had at 139mph in our Black Thunder this year or the 52sv that ran 138mph last year were on the better radar guns, so it's not a completely fair comparision (more generous this year and last year). |
You guys have that BT Rockin!!! Great show as always in that Old School ride!

Congrats to OL also. Those speeds are amazing in a V |
Any video of either one running. That 52 is stunning. The lines of it sitting at the dock are incredible. Congrats to the OL crew

I'm not discounting cigarette but quit comparing the two, they're not in the same league, you're talking about boats that can't run stable over 110mph versus boats that are stable at 150mph. Two different breeds. I think Cigarette builds a great boat... I just prefer Outerlimits, hands down.... When was the last time Cigarette ran in a shoot out? Nuff' Said... Congrats to Outerlimits, Mike and Joe, for their accomplishments. |
What your saying is exactly my point pat, the Outerlimits bottoms are far superior to the cigs, but some people like the square, masculine, hardcore offshore looks of a Cig. So what I'm saying is if OL made a boat like that and called it a 42 Classic. It would pull a lot of Cig guys over to OL. I think from a marketing standpoint it would be a success.
How would it look bad?? It'd look like a cig with Outerlimits performance |
It would be wide and angular. The OL's Flare up...versus the side lines. The 50 is more angular than any other boat they've done, That's about as jagged as I think you're going to see...and the 29

Congrats!!

I am a big cigarette fan but you have to give it up to Mike, Joe and the rest of the crew, they go hard with every build and they have raised the bar.
