boating usage
so normally i use my boat at least 20 times a year. This year iv used it about 6-7 times. Anyone else use there boat this little?
I almost feel like its a waste....maybe im just sad knowning that in michigan the boating season is only 5months....or maybe im just venting...anyways going to finish up my door install at home and head out to the lake for the 8th time this year lol |
It was a slow start with our record flooding here but I've managed to rack up 90 hours since mid-late june. Usually closer to 150 by the end of the season which i don't see happening.

Sold the 382 and bought a 21ft CC. Only out about 5-6 times this year. However, we spent 5-6 weekends out on the jetskis and another 5-6 weekends out with my newest toy.......caged road race car. That has been a blast so I haven't missed the water.
Only been out four times this year. Seems like when I can go the weathers no good.
Sold our boat last year as the kids are the ages where sports and other school related stuff eats up so much time boating became difficult to do. We are talking about buying another one for next year, but at my sons football game this afternoon, I got talking to another parent about the crazy schedule we have to keep up with the kids and he mentioned they didn't even dewinterize their boat this year. Maybe I'll reconsider. Only six more years till they are done with school......:poopoo:
Have a couple boats. The smaller they are the more they get used with the biggest not going out all summer. For what it costs to go out I could buy a part and have the part after that one ride I was going to take. So I buy the part and don't use it. Seems kind of pointless don't it.
I only put 20 hrs on my boat I stuck 18k in over the winter due to an idiot smashing my boat at coast quard. But I got a new boat out of the deal and got to keep my old one and a clear title still so I'm one happy son of a gun. Can't wait till next yr to make runs accross and all over. Already setting money aside to play.
I used mine for maybe 3 hours this summer. My 12 yo daughter came up w this saying. " big boats = big problems. JUST SAYIN' "
Btw. Name of our boat is just sayin' She nailed it |
I know your pain. I have hadaboat fo the past twenty or so years and never missed a season. Usually put on 40-50 hours and do most of the pokerruns. I did do some work this year and tomorrow will be my third time out. For the second year in a row I am thinking about selling and buying another plane. Just another toy to throw money at. Haha.
Between motor issues and ripping the bottom off my boat, I got 1 weekends use out of it. So I have resorted to bumming rides from my fiberglass guy and my motor fixin guy. Thanks to Glassdave for the boat rides and Brian41 for the flying lessons!! It may not be my boat, but at least I have spent some time on boats with good people this summer and that's what its all about.
Same situation here. Between the crappy weather and some mechanical issues we only have 10 hrs on this season. Not looking good now for any further boating, weather is starting to turn and kids are back in school and busy with activities. Feeling pretty down about the whole thing, spent a ton of time and money(for us at least) on the boat from so little use.
90 hrs so far this season.
In the past I used my boat every weekend. The last 3 years I have had the boat out 3 times a season. I have been putting around 8 hours on a season. I am taking it out today in about 30 minutes. Jeff Wurl

I'm in the same boat. Start the year with fuel issues on a new boat and they plagued me all summer, eventually coming to a head the sunday before labor day. Not a good year when you buy a boat in the spring and still bum more rides than you take yours out.
And now that I've typed this I feel really smart. lol |
27 hours with only a couple more weekends to go.
35 hrs. so far
i feel better knowing that im not the only one who feels like i wasted a lot of money on a boat. lol
well guys im glad im not alone! |
Today was a bust so mark me down for two days this year and less than 3 hours. Found two broken bolts on steering pump when I got down to boat. Hopefully an easyout and some new bolts will get me on the water by next weekend...

I think yesterday was my last day out this year, 53 hours this summer. |
Down this year. Only about 20 hours or so this year, 40 hours last year, 100 hours the year before, but that was after 10 and 0 hours the previous two years.

74 hours this year, boat will stay in the water til late October.
78 hours so far, we will use the boat 1 or 2 more times this season.
Keep boat in side yard, live 1 block from ramp. The workers at ramp give me tickets for over use of ramp (as a joke). My wife is a boating nut, July and Aug. we are out 5 to 6 times a week.
Made my 4th trip for the season. My late start because of the evil powder coater that would not return my parts on time. Then putting the parts back on I cut my leg pretty bad and needed stitched up, my back bothering me more than usual now work is calling non stop. So I have 8 hours so far. At least I saved up gas money for next season
Ok just to make you up north guys feel good about short seasons/not using your boat.......
Got a whaler in the garage, repowered with a new 4 stroke 7 years ago and it has about 130 hours on it.......Since Sept 2012......boat hasn't gotten wet, live 4 miles from the water, sunny almost every day. I bought the 2013 boat ramp sticker (still in envelope) and the registration got renewed but never got put on the boat (still in envelope also). Filled the boat with gas back around Memorial day had intentions for Labor Day but neighbors invited for a bbq and boat never got wet.......Nice part about 4 stroke Yamaha power is I know it will start when I get to the ramp! :D I have charged the battery a few times just to keep it juiced up...... I did go to the Bahamas on a CC w/900 HP hanging off the back which was great! |
I usually get harassed by "Vette131" on here for not putting that many hours on our boat.
BUT, we bought a bigger boat where have room to move around easier and flattens out any rough that pops up so we can take the kids out more often without having to watch the weather so much. So, I missed the first PR b/c my nephew graduated HS then we put about 15 hours on boat in a couple months which was good compared to our normal 10-15 per year.... Now our 5 yr daughter broke her leg, so water is not so friendly, so hopefully it healed by the end of the month so we can get back on the water. We do mostly take lil ride out and raft or beach up so our engine hours are usually inherently low. Washed boat yesterday for a big run this weekend!! cant wait!!!! Patriot Poker Run from Slidell to New Orleans! |
been out 50 times so far this year only 130 hours of run time, about 3500 miles (bought 1606 gallons of diesel so far)
400 miles this summer and I had drive issues that kept me out of the water half the summer.. I tell everyone, don`t bother inviting me to your lame kids birthday/graduation parties or whatever else you got going on because in the summer I`m on the water and aint coming!:evilb:
As far as putting your kids in a bunch of sports that take up weekends and a $hit load of time??? I got a news flash for ya, your kid isn`t going to be the next Walter Payton, get over it and go do something better than driving them around.. like boating. :p

Late start for me due to snow that didn't know winter was over , rain rain and more rain , knee surgery . Boat made it to the water at the end of JULY . 5 fun filled trips out one of which was a poker run . I winterized today and towed her home for what looks to be an early winter . Evan at only 5 trips I still love my boat . For the op I told our family's on both sides " If your going to die or get married don't do it during the summer cause we won't be able to make it . " My brother still says I suck . :angry-smiley-038: :lolhit:

the Fountain got out this past weekend for the LC PR, and 1 weekend last month.
Never made out of garage last yr Out 2 weekends the yr before that And then no joy the yr before that. Registration is yrs old. Cheaper to pay the fine than register. :) The cruiser on the other hand, gets used every weekend from April till Nov 1st |
Out on the boat every weekend since May 1st, Zero mechanical issue and spent a lot less on gas, Love outboards!
This was my first season with the Banana 24 on the water and its been alot of fun. Many hours, many miles, many good times. You know its a good season when the boat spends almost as much time in the air as it does in the water!
I've only burned a 1/4 a tank and I'm pulling it for the year next weekend, mine was due to my seasonal upgrade (header swap) bit me in the rear and waiting 2 weeks at a time for every nickel and dime part.
Could be worse, could be like a wheeling rig.....atleast the boat is worth something when you done with it, and you never hear anybody complaining about nobody wanting to go boating. |
