Filming the lead boat and two others shoot the gap at 100 plus mph
I'm not sure what "shoot the gap" means to you....but I know how I interpret that.

so there is no concern for the actual drivers of the boat

prevent the sponsors and event holders from being sued, keep those that we can place blame on from being able to operate on a public lake and then go out there and flip away? or stuff stuff stuff

what "spectator" caused the flip at Havasu I must have missed where there was a Sea Ray or other large boat to place that blame on....so as long as they are racing it is ok for those racing in an actual race in a cat to flip as well like the two men that died that this years LOTO was dedicated to?....was there a big Sea Ray that threw up a wake for them as well? and last I heard there was some lawsuits over that even though they were in a closed course sanctioned race

99% of the problems with the "public" would be prevented by not running within 20 feet of the public and operating a boat on an open public waterway in a fashion that recognizes you are on an open public body of water not a closed race course and it has been several years since the public was involved in deaths from a poker run unless I missed some recent incidents and the last time I recall was I believe Texoma with massive equipment failure being the cause

"waivers" mean nothing for law suit purposes and they certainly don't prevent death which is what I would like to see prevented along with the lawsuits that might come with those deaths

this thread was about The Poker run format and how to improve it. I don't think its productive to argue how to make boats faster and more stable at high speeds. My point earlier is that making things higher performance will not keep accidents from happening. Lets say you added some active wing. Well then we could see crashes because the active wing failed.

Back on topic.

One thing that has been touched on but not completely is the enforcing of rules. You can have all the rules in the world but if you do not enforce them then they do nothing.

As DS this year they made a great change and had everyone stay behind pace boat until the lake opened up. Part of the group took off way before they got to the rock that was the marker and they passed the pace boat. As far as I know not one of those drivers were held accountable for their actions.

In this LC PR it is clear in the videos that some boats violated actual boating law and safe distances. it is also shown that many boats were ahead of the pace boat. did they not fully understand what a pace boat is?

There needs to be rules and consequences for violation of those rules. This goes for any event where people are involved. Without Rules and consequences you end up with chaos.

In the Driver's meeting Bill Jasper and the KDFW Officer made the point several times that it was not a closed course. They said to EXPECT bass fisherman, tubers, cruisers making large waves. They said they tried to do their best to keep the lake clear, but they told us it would not be completely clear. The area of the wreck is very wide, very few spectator boats were there and it was very smooth. I'd like to know what was up with the cruiser captain. I've got a good shot of the cruiser on my gopro video as I turned around to the site.

Are these the 2 same boats centered around this accident?

I am sure that even at some level he admits to himself that this was not a safe position to be in. I have done a lot of stupid stuff and eventually I come around to ya that was stupid LOL. Its up to the driver to operate his boat safe under conditions, spectator boats are part of the conditions just like ice on the highway. Bill made a jacka$$ move but in my opinion that does not make him a jacka$$.

Not so sure now......looks like a JackApple there too!

No just the lime green one and the first boat in the video. That was too close but still a cool video. Rip Brad and Jeff!

That is a video recording the azz hole move of the year.

Wings on front of cats
Fast boats first
Fast boats last
Clear the course
Follow the pace boat

Stick that all in your ear.

If you are going to drive and behave as in these videos , someone is going to die.

And they did.
